I was born in Mexico. During my senior year in college, I received a scholarship from the Rotary Clubs of Georgia, and spent a year in Carrollton. I graduated with honors from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) with a degree in Business Computer Systems.

Upon college graduation, I moved to Roswell in 1995 and started a 25+ year career in Information Technology. I have worked on projects for small businesses and Fortune 500 companies all over the US leading teams of 10+ members, including off-shore resources. I've worked on systems for telecommunications, billing, customer service, retail, airlines, and third-party integrations. I became a naturalized US citizen in 1999. I enjoy volunteering in my community. I have served on the board of my HOA, helped the PTAs of the 3 Fulton County public schools my children attended, have done canvassing, voter protection and voter registration.

To demonstrate my love of civic duty, I have been a poll worker for Fulton County in multiple elections. I have participated in many events as a peace marshal, friendship ambassador, and I especially enjoy helping as a Spanish-English translator for various non-profits in the state. I have been married to Scott since 1995 and have two adult children.
  • I have a 20+ year background in Information Technology. We do not have enough technologists in the legislature. We need people with my expertise to check that money is well spent, that updates are done to the existing systems, that they are secure and dependable. IT is ingrained in everything: schools, education, telemedicine, government services, elections. I have the experience to evaluate proposals, check for feasibility, and indicate where more help is needed.
  • I am a woman and an immigrant from Mexico. The Georgia Legislature needs more women, POC, and Hispanic representation. If we want the legislature to be truly representative of the state, then we must elect candidates that represent the demographics as well.
  • I have been an activist for many years. I started as a PTA and HOA volunteer, and once my children grew up, I moved on to voter registration, voter protection, poll working, out-reach to Hispanic and other underserved communities, even being a peace marshal during march and protests to help keep everyone safe. I'm ready to serve the residents of the State, and happy to do it at a greater scale, benefiting more people.
Voting rights, voter registration and voter protection. Housing accessibility and affordability. Getting good accessible, affordable healthcare to all residents. Lowering the maternal mortality rate in the State. Increasing the access to broadband and dependable internet access in all areas of the State. Criminal Justice reforms. Worker protection, safety, and benefits. Improve public transportation, not just in the metro Area, but in other areas of the State as well.
One of my favorite authors is Sarah Vowell. Her books, The Partly Cloudy Patriot, Assassination Vacation, The Wordy Shipmates, Unfamiliar Fishes, and Lafayette in the Somewhat United States taught me so much about the history of the US from the point of view of someone who loves her country, warts and all, and makes it so accesible, especially to someone who didn't go to primary school in the US, like me.
In her essays she combines transcripts from documents with her observations and even some pop culture references, showing how government is lead by people, not mythical figures, humans just like you and I.
My first job was as a summer intern at my high school. I actually did it for 3 summers. It involved the usual stuff: answering phones, getting snacks, but also a lot of data entry and working with the computer systems. I didn't know then my career was going to be in computer science but it was good training for getting used to staring at a screen for hours. Kidding aside, it was interesting to see the behind the scenes of registrations, payments, grading, and general management of the school and taught me a lot about an office environment.
My favorite book is an encyclopedia. Any encyclopedia. Growing up we didn't have much access to books, but we did have a big encyclopedia and I liked to get a volume, look up a term, and then read the entries listed before and after. It sounds like a weird hobby for a kid, or to do it even now, but it has been very helpful during trivia nights.
"Stand" from R.E.M. They have been my favorite band since high school, and the hook of that song is quite catchy.
They have to listen to each other respectfully, even if they disagree as long as it is good faith. These are jobs that affect real people, the decisions they make have very real consequences, and they shouldn't use constituents or residents as pawns in a game. The ideal relationship is like being colleagues at a firm, not competitors in an industry.
It is good, but not a requirement. The state legislature should reflect its constituents, and those constituents have many different backgrounds and careers. We need teachers, technologists, doctors, farmers, stay at home mothers. We shouldn't close up the entry to candidates just because they are not lawyers or have worked for a government. If we do that, the view and the issues debated would be very skewed and therefore not beneficial.
Just like we learn and we train for a new job, learning to be an effective legislator can be done quickly by the right newly-elected candidate.
It should be non-partisan. If we have the legislators drawing up their own districts (or drawing out opponents or "enemies") then we have a fox in the henhouse situation, and the result is not representative of the state as a whole or the communities being drawn.
