Campaign themes
2012
On education, Hegarty states, "First, we have to make sure that the formulas for state “Chapter 70” school aid are both fair and up-to-date. Second, we have to maintain full state funding of the “circuit-breaker” special education program ... And third, the Commonwealth should bolster support for local school districts, community colleges and our public universities to ensure that our citizens enter the workforce with the tools they need to be competitive in the fast-paced 21st century innovation economy." She opposes "quick fixes" to the MBTA's long term budget problems, and does not support mandatory minimum sentencing laws.[4]
