The JoJoDay Stage special event announced an anime adaptation of the seventh part of Hirohiko Araki's JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) manga series, Steel Ball Run, on Saturday. Production company Warner Bros. Japan simultaneously opened an official website, revealing a teaser visual (pictured) and an announcement promo.

Steel Ball Run originally began in Weekly Shounen Jump in January 2004 as an unrelated story to the series. Following its transfer to Ultra Jump in April 2005, it became an official part, set in an alternate timeline. Shueisha published the manga in 24 volumes between May 2004 and June 2011, later compiling it into 16 volumes from February 2017 to January 2018.

Araki launched the action adventure manga series with the first part, Phantom Blood, in Weekly Shounen Jump in 1986. The second through six part—Sentou Chouryuu (Battle Tendency), Stardust Crusaders, Diamond wa Kudakenai (Diamond Is Unbreakable), Ougon no Kaze (Golden Wind), and Stone Ocean—ran in the same magazine between 1987 and 2003.

The eighth part, JoJolion, ended in August 2021 in Ultra Jump after a ten-year run. Shueisha published the 27th and final volume in September that year.

The JoJoLands, the ninth part of the manga series, debuted in Ultra Jump in February 2023. Shueisha released the fifth and latest volume in December 2024.

David Production adapted the first six parts into anime series with the most recent, Stone Ocean, streaming in three installments on Netflix in December 2021, September 2022, and December 2022. VIZ Media released the anime on two Blu-ray volumes in January and September 2024.

VIZ Media published the first sixth manga parts physically in English in North America, with the first two volumes of Steel Ball Run planned for a May 27 and July 22 release.

Synopsis
In the American Old West, the world's greatest race is about to begin. Thousands line up in San Diego to travel over six thousand kilometers for a chance to win the grand prize of fifty million dollars. With the era of the horse reaching its end, contestants are allowed to use any kind of vehicle they wish. Competitors will have to endure grueling conditions, traveling up to a hundred kilometers a day through uncharted wastelands. The Steel Ball Run is truly a one-of-a-kind event.

The youthful Johnny Joestar, a crippled former horse racer, has come to San Diego to watch the start of the race. There he encounters Gyro Zeppeli, a racer with two steel balls at his waist instead of a gun. Johnny witnesses Gyro using one of his steel balls to unleash a fantastical power, compelling a man to fire his gun at himself during a duel. In the midst of the action, Johnny happens to touch the steel ball and feels a power surging through his legs, allowing him to stand up for the first time in two years. Vowing to find the secret of the steel balls, Johnny decides to compete in the race, and so begins his bizarre adventure across America on the Steel Ball Run. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

It might be the case where there are two different teams of animators working on both shows

I personally doubt it only they are both gigantic productions with extreme expectations(if they do a bad job with JoJo they can really damage their reputations compared to if they do a bad job with other anime) and David doesn't rush stuff so I can't say for sure if they can manage not delaying JoJo a bit unless of course they outsource things such as CGI etc and not do everything in-house

@Yubisoft It might be the case where there are two different teams of animators working on both shows. For big studios like DP, not every single person will be working on one show. I believe DP has the rights to the franchise, I doubt they'll give the series away to another studio.

@_cjessop19_ If David production animate this. it's not only a matter of when they started production but they also are busy with Fire Force both this part and part 2 in 2026. I would say from March March 2027 and after we should expect a release date

Good stuff. Shocked Viz managed to get the official English translation started before this, it was looking tight.
Hopefully it receives better treatment than Netflix gave Stone Ocean (;´ Д`)

@Vendicator They only started production back in December 2024, it'll be at least 1-2 years before they start releasing episodes. 2027 is a good time to start airing, hopefully as weekly episodes.

@TRC_Randy that sounds about right, the jojo's before that were 17 volumes whereas part 7 is 24, thats like a 30% increase in content so it need about 10-11 more episodes to fill in the gaps. Though I do recall part 7 being alot more dialogue heavy so i wonder if it will be that clean

Now part 8 is gonna be a fucking nightmare to adapt.
