Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2

Seeking to restore humanity's diminishing hope, the Survey Corps embark on a mission to retake Wall Maria, where the battle against the merciless "Titans" takes the stage once again.

Returning to the tattered Shiganshina District that was once his home, Eren Yeager and the Corps find the town oddly unoccupied by Titans. Even after the outer gate is plugged, they strangely encounter no opposition. The mission progresses smoothly until Armin Arlert, highly suspicious of the enemy's absence, discovers distressing signs of a potential scheme against them.

Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 follows Eren as he vows to take back everything that was once his. Alongside him, the Survey Corps strive—through countless sacrifices—to carve a path towards victory and uncover the secrets locked away in the Yeager family's basement.

Attack on Titan has been a masterpiece since its debut in 2013, but its third season, particularly the second part, elevates it to a flawless work of art.

Here are aspects that I loved about season 3:

STORY (10/10)
- The first part of Season 3 marks a drastic shift from the action-packed nature of the series to a more politically driven narrative. It explores government corruption, rebellion within the walls, and Historia’s past.
- While the pacing slows down initially, the intrigue keeps it engaging.
- Part two, however, is a game-changer. The Return to Shiganshina arc is nothing short of a masterpiece, delivering high-stakes action, shocking revelations, and ... gripping storytelling.
- The long-awaited mystery behind the Titans is finally unraveled, adding emotional and narrative weight to the series.
- The season’s drama is deeply moving, with significant character deaths and a profound look into Grisha Yeager’s past.

CHARACTERS (10/10)
- Season 3 showcases remarkable character development:
- Eren Yeager matures significantly, questioning his purpose upon learning the truth about the Titans.
- Levi Ackermann delivers some of his most unforgettable moments, and his emotional backstory adds depth to his character.
- Erwin Smith provides one of the most inspiring yet heartbreaking moments in the entire series.
- Historia Reiss transforms from a timid figure into one of the most powerful and well-developed characters.
- Reiner, Bertholdt, and Zeke elevate the tension, making their confrontations even more impactful.

ART & ANIMATION (10/10)
- Wit Studio’s animation is breathtakingly fluid and detailed, especially in the action sequences.
- The battle scenes, particularly Levi vs. the Beast Titan, are visually stunning.
- Character expressions and dramatic moments are rendered beautifully, enhancing the emotional impact.

MUSIC (9.5/10)
- The first opening theme was decent, but I preferred Linked Horizon’s symphonic rock style.
- The second opening was much stronger, perfectly capturing the intensity of the season.

ENDING (10/10)
- The season concludes in a highly satisfying way, revealing what lies beyond the walls while setting the stage for future developments.

OVERALL
- Attack on Titan Season 3 is a monumental achievement in anime, pushing the boundaries of storytelling with its political intrigue, jaw-dropping plot twists, and an unforgettable climax in Return to Shiganshina.
- This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest anime sequels ever made. I can only hope that the MAPPA-animated final season lives up to the perfection set by this installment.

Mixed Feelings

The review as a whole will contain spoilers for the previous seasons. I usually try to avoid spoilers, but this time, the problems are so directly related to the story that I have to address some of the plot elements. Those that have seen the previous parts of the show are safe for now. I will give a warning until I get to the spoilers for Season 3 Part 2.

I actually loved the beginning of S3P2. The first six episodes, for me, were as good as the show has gotten since season 1. We are finally taking back Wall Maria. We will finally get to ... know the mystery of the cellar. We get the hyped up confrontation with the Armored and Colossal Titans - the one's that started it all. And the ruined district of Shiganshina is the perfect venue for this climactic confrontation. Seeing it again felt really cathartic. During the previous chapters, I almost forgot how satisfying it can be to be dealing with something that has been properly built up and not just hastily thrown at the wall with the hopes of it sticking.

The battle of Shiganshina has a lot of great things going on. Bunch of great heroic moments and lots of incredibly over the top, brutal, action. The beast titan is hurling boulders baseball pitcher style. The Colossal Titan can cause something akin to a nuclear explosion upon transforming now. Much of it is stupid, but it's stupid in the most entertaining way possible. We get epic heroic speeches. Moments of sacrifice. Couple of anticlimactic deaths too, to remind us that it's not all roses and heroism on the battlefield. Very Attack on Titan. The entire injector dilemma was a brilliant and tense sequence. It was so good that I find it difficult to accept that it emerged from the same mind that came up with the atrocious Reiss family story and thought it wouldn't damage the setting. In a vacuum, the battle of Shiganshina is a lot fun. What drags it down, is that it is constantly climbing uphill after what the previous chapters did to the story as a whole. But over all, I would definitely recommend the first six episodes to anyone who has gotten this far into the show - there is no reason to stop before experiencing this.

And then they ruin it. And by "it", I mean everything. A lot of dumb stuff happened during Season 2 and S3P1. But it was all still very tolerable. It could have been fixed... or at least you kept telling yourself that. But this was not only the last nail into the story's coffin, as far as I'm concerned, it was also enough dirt to bury the whole thing 6 feet under.

==SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT==

The entire world we have seen so far, is actually a secluded island. Beyond the ocean, there is an evil mega nation of doom that are persecuting an ancient race of people that once commanded the power of the titans. Their preferred method of execution for the descendants of these titans is to inject them with titan juice and set them loose on the island to terrorize the people living inside the walls. The Evil mega nation of doom, that are now being set up as the primary antagonists, are after the vast amounts of natural resources that can be found on the island. That's the spark behind it all! The nazis want some oil! If this sounds incredibly stupid to you... it's because I'm bastardizing it to hell... But also because IT IS!

So, it all took place on an island. We got characters with split personalities. Characters with very selective amnesia. Memory altering magic powers. Inconsistent magic powers that inexplicably work on some people while being useless against others. When your story has elements such as these, you know you are dealing with quite a mess. There are some satisfying revelations here and there but they don't outweigh the tremendous amounts of awful.

Also, every new bit of information we have learned about the titans as the show has progressed, has made them less and less cool. What happened to the "grim reminder" the mankind received at the beginning of the show? Living in fear of the titans? By the end of season 3 the characters are talking like the titans aren't even a factor anymore. And they are right! The titans are meaningless. In fact, they kill off all the titans! They JUST do it! Killing off ALL the regular titans, the once insurmountable enemy of mankind, isn't even deserving of a montage. Not even a dialogue scene. It's a passing sentence. One of the most horrific monsters ever created - reduced to this.

To wrap it up... The first 6 episodes of the season are a lot of fun. They are what drag my score for the season a little higher than it probably should be, considering the dreadful plot revelations in the final episodes.

They say that this arc is a masterpiece, the best of simps no kyojin, at least I, I don't know in which head that can be said, it is a terrible arc like the whole work and now I will explain why:

Superficial sections such as art or sound are fine, although I managed to notice one or another frame that would serve for a meme, and being superficial details I would not add many points for that.

The only reasons why I see that they praise this arc is for Failed Zzzmith and Inutil Arlert, and at least for me two good characters do not save ... an entire work, in the other sections they fail, everything is so convenient, predictable and stupid, many Sometimes they repeat things that are already obvious, or that at the time of the syringe, those two are dying Zzzmith and Arlert but obviously as one is the protagonist and the other is secondary, it is quite obvious who they are going to save, and that they are still alive despite the fact that They are equal or more wounded than the other soldiers, but of course, we both need them alive to create a false drama.

I won't bother talking about the others too much because they are terrible, like the sacrifice of a minor character like Moblit and Hange's reappearance being both predictable and convenient, Connie and the Titans making jokes in the middle of seriousness, Sasha being a burden, Jean doing nothing but saving Hange in an equally convenient way, Eren and Mikasa being unbearable and selfish, not respecting the decision that their friend made, Levi jumping to kill Reiner instead of capturing him, and being able to carry so many titans and To the titan monkey despite being bleeding too much, Floch despite the fact that his salvation is very convenient seemed to me better than the others, especially his speech in chapter 12, the antagonists were better worked, although they do not save this disaster either, and the pure titans well Zeke made them look foolish. In conclusion the characters at least the vast majority are terrible from beginning to end.


The revelation that there is life behind the walls was a shit, so much suffering, sacrifices, corny monologues to reveal just something that everyone denied, and with Grisha's exposition, it is more of the same than anyone could deduce, but how Simps No Kyojin treats his audience as retarded is explained like this, and the story (at least up to this point) is well planned but the execution is a mess in its entirety.
Conclusion: This arc is a disaster just like the entire work, terribly unbearable characters, plot and narration being a shit that treats viewers like idiots, horribly executed story, more blatant conveniences and inconsistencies than previous seasons, revelations that serve to make gets too long, and it has no end, everything was left on the air for later seasons that would be worse than this.
