Lively is a pastor and the founder of Abiding Truth Ministries in California.[1] He has also worked as a lawyer.

Lively ran for election to the office of Governor of Massachusetts.[1] He and lieutenant gubernatorial running mate Shelly Saunders faced the Democratic ticket of Martha Coakley and Steve Kerrigan, the Republican ticket of Charles D. Baker and Karyn Polito and two additional Independent tickets in the general election. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

Noteworthy events
Lively was the target of a lawsuit filed in 2012 by Sexual Minorities Uganda. The lawsuit credited Lively with "government-backed acts of violence against gays as a result of his rhetoric." Lively gave an address to the Ugandan parliament in 2009 in support of an anti-homosexual agenda. The trial is supposed to begin in early 2016 in a U.S. district court in Springfield.[2]
