Education, Economic Development and Healthcare
I look up to my great grandparents and grandmother who were petitioners in the Briggs v. Elliot case in SC that rolled up to Brown v. Board of Education for equality and better resources for students of color. I appreciate the foresight, concern and bravery they had not only for their own community but for our nation. It was not easy in a segregated society to speak up for equality for people of color, but their example move me to speak up and speak out for change in my community.
A elected official must have a desire to serve, be accountable and available to the constituents, be open to listening and learning and be willing to go to bat for those they represent.
One of my favorite books, movie and play is the Color Purple by Alice Walker. It is a story of love, loss, faith, and strength in the face of adversity for women of color. Though we have come a long way we still have a long way to go and as a women of color I am keenly aware of the double is of racism and sexism that I have to fight and fight for all in my community.
A very painful struggle in my life but a labor of love was to be a care giver to my late husband Retired Army Sgt. Major Robert Robinson. My late husband battled with pancreatic cancer for almost 2 years and passed away in late 2018. The experience taught me selfless love and an understanding of care giving and loss. I also learned about the importance of having health insurance and how the lack thereof can be a matter of life and death. I have been even more dedicated to helping families and strengthening our health care in Georgia.
Like other state's dealing with the effects of COVID 19, the biggest challenge is to restore our decimated budget while still serving the most vulnerable of our population.

Some other specific challenges over the next decade would be:

Increasing access to healthcare
Improving transportation and access
Bringing wages in Georgia up to a respectable living wage

Schools and updating the QBE formula.
Relationships in any organization or body is so vital. One legislator cannot enact change so you need the understanding and support of your colleagues. It is important to talk with and get to know your colleagues that may not look like you or have the same views as you. Learning another's value system helps you come to a consensus on issues and move our communities forward.
I favor a process where legislators do not choose their voters but voters choose their legislators. Gerrymandering is a real and systemic problem in many communities. We should use census and other data to draw district lines in an independent fashion that is representative of our diverse community.
