I am a wife, mother, grandmother, Christian who has lived in Eureka Springs for 35 years. I worked as a Speech Pathologist for 30 years, specializing in severely handicapped children and adults. In 2005 my husband and I started a free Christian health clinic called ECHO (Eureka Christian Health Outreach, Inc.) to provide healthcare for those who had none. Today ECHO provides medical, dental, optometry, physical therapy, counseling, social services, free medications through a fully licensed pharmacy, and a healthy home cooked meal on clinic nights. In 2018 we began a low income housing project called ECHO Village. In ECHO Village we have built 10 small homes with a goal of 26. Residents live there with reduced rent and receive help from a social worker to get on other programs to help them out of the cycle of poverty.

In 2019 my husband and I were named Volunteer of the Year by the Arkansas Community Foundation. We just received Community of the Year for Eureka Springs from the Municipal League because of our work at ECHO at ECHO Village.

I am an active member of my church -First United Methodist - and I am an ERT, emergency response trained volunteer. I go all over the state or country whenever disasters such as tornadoes, floods, hurricanes hit to help our neighbors in times of trouble. I have been to New Orleans 8 times and have helped with local and neighboring tornadoes as well.
I am passionate about healthcare. I believe that having access to affordable medical care is a right, not a privilege for those who can afford it. I am passionate that medications should be reasonably cost and not set in such a way as to make a person make hard choices between needed medication and maintaining basic household needs. I am passionate that as a Christian I am called to not only hear God's word but to go out and do it. I am passionate about caring for those among us who are the last, the least, the lost. I am passionate about trying to live my life in such a way as to love and be a peacemaker. I am passionate about caring for this beautiful earth we have been given and to do so in a responsible way that is healthy for everyone. I am passionate about providing decent homes for those who struggle because they cannot get by on minimum wage. I am passionate the educating people is the key to helping solve many of our issues and we should protect and properly und our public schools and teachers.
Jesus Christ is my role model and example as to how I should live. I know I cannot but I keep trying.

My mother has been my biggest hero. She came to this country from Chile not speaking the language and not knowing the culture. She brought me here to live in the greatest country in the world and she gave me such wonderful opportunities.

I also admire Hillary Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsberg for their pioneering the role of women to a very high plane. They broke many barriers and I respect their journey.
Honesty and integrity. I believe that when you represent others, you must do so to your best ability and be truthful every step of the way. Not everyone will be happy but you must be open and honest. A second characteristic is to have humility. This is NOT about you. It is about the privilege you have to represent and serve others.
I am tenacious, hardworking, and dedicated. I am careful in that I read and study about topics before making decisions. My personality of a Type A makes it perfect for putting in the work and study that is needed to make careful decisions that affect people. My strong Christian faith keeps me centered. And I am not afraid to make the tough decisions that are required at times.
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I first read this book in junior high and have been captivated by the story of redemption and sacrifice. I have reread it again and again. I think the perception of a person and the reality of who that person truly is just gripped me. I find that my work through my nonprofit seems to echo this story of Jean Valjean in many people I encounter. It is a timeless tale.
One of the biggest differences is the length of time a state representative serves as opposed to a state senator. The state representative also represents fewer people than a senator. While they are both elected to serve their constituents and create bills to help them, the time served makes it more imperative to work hard and get things accomplished for a representative. So time is of the essence and a state representative must be committed to work long and hard to be most effective.
Absolutely. I believe we need to connect on a personal level - as humans sharing common experiences. It is critical to talk WITH each other, not AT each other. That means having dinner together, sharing family photos, connecting on a personal and spiritual level.

It is critical that we stop the hatred and vitriol in politics. It is important to work together and find common ground. There is so much that we share in common and far less differences. The name calling and the tribalism has to end. This is going to be our biggest challenge because there is so much work to be done. It will take a long time to undo all the damage that has been done. If we do not do this and govern with the idea that we are elected to only help people who think like us, then we are doomed to failure. It is only when we begin to see each other as human beings - not with labels - and work together for the common good will Arkansas be truly great.

We are at a crossroads with the environment. If we do not work together for solutions, we will be doomed
I am deeply moved by the high cost of insulin that is causing so many of our diabetic patients in our clinic such distress. I am particularly moved by the young women with brittle diabetes who was in danger of losing her eyesight. She was able to obtain eyesight saving procedures through our ECHO Clinic . Each treatment costs over $4,000 and she has had over 8 for free through our connections. Today she continues to follow up on those treatments and is working full time, and able to stay an active community member.
