“ | Our border is a disaster, crime infests our cities, the federal government makes it harder for families to make ends meet, and the president flounders. But decline is a choice, success is attainable, and freedom is worth fighting for. Righting the ship requires restoring sanity to our society, normalcy to our communities, and integrity to our institutions.[1] | ” |
—Ron DeSantis (May 2023)[2] |
Ron DeSantis (R) was the governor of Florida. He had served in the position since 2019. DeSantis announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on May 24, 2023.[3] DeSantis withdrew on January 21, 2024.[4]
In his campaign announcement, DeSantis said he would reduce government spending and inflation, increase security at the U.S.-Mexico border, support funding for law enforcement, increase domestic energy production, reduce the authority of the administrative state, and "re-establish integrity in our institutions" by reducing focus on "matters not central to the mission, whether it's global warming or gender ideology and pronouns." DeSantis highlighted his record as governor of Florida, saying, "In Florida we proved it could be done. We chose facts over fear, education over indoctrination, law and order over rioting and disorder. We held the line."[5]
Before serving as governor, DeSantis represented Florida's 6th congressional district in the U.S. House from 2012 to 2018. Click here to read more about DeSantis' biography.
Biography
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., DeSantis grew up in Orlando and Dunedin, Fla.[6] Following graduation from Dunedin High School, he attended Yale University where he was captain of the baseball team. DeSantis graduated magna cum laude from Yale in 2001. He worked as a history teacher for a year before attending Harvard Law School, where he received a Juris Doctor cum laude in 2005.[7]
DeSantis served in the U.S. Navy from 2004 to 2010. He was a judge advocate general (JAG) officer advising a Navy SEAL commander in Iraq and working with detainees at Guantanamo Bay.[8][9][10] His military honors include the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service and the Iraq Campaign Medal.[11]
DeSantis worked as a federal prosecutor before being elected in 2012 to the U.S. House of Representatives to represent Florida's 6th Congressional District, a position he held until running for governor in 2018.[8][12] In 2015, DeSantis announced he would run for the Senate seat held by Marco Rubio (R). When Rubio announced he would seek re-election to the Senate, DeSantis ran for re-election in the House instead.[11]
DeSantis and his wife Casey, a former television host, have three children, Madison, Mason, and Mamie.[13]

Policy positions
The following policy positions were compiled from the candidate's official campaign website, editorials, speeches, and debates.
Immigration
DeSantis campaign website said, "This epic failure to reclaim our sovereignty has caused harms that touch millions of Americans in their daily lives. Public safety has suffered. [...] Illegal immigration has also hollowed out the wages of the American working class. [...] Mass illegal immigration is also fundamentally unfair to immigrants who make their way to the United States legally." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Healthcare
In a Republican debate DeSantis said, "We are going to go after the cost. You’re paying too much for everything. We’ve actually addressed this in Florida in some ways, but you need price transparency. You need to hold the pharmaceuticals accountable. You need to hold big insurance and big government accountable, and we’re going to get that done." [source, as of 2023-12-06]
Energy and environmental issues
DeSantis' campaign website listed the following pillars of his energy plan, "Restore American Energy Dominance. Save the American Automobile. Elevate Evidence Over Ideology. Reform Environmental Permitting and End Green Lawfare. Jump-Start Critical Mineral and Federal Land Development. Build the Most Efficient, Affordable, and Reliable Energy Grid in the World." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Economy
DeSantis' campaign website said, "Americans have been saddled with persistently high prices and weak economic growth. American families have seen their quality of life and economic security diminish while our national debt has exploded, and our country loses to Communist China. We need an economic policy that is focused on making the cost of living more affordable for working families. Our policies can no longer be driven by the ruling class. It's time to name names and defeat those people and institutions that have formed the root cause of this economic malaise. And a family-focused economy means having the courage to take on our enemies." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Education
DeSantis' campaign website said, "DeSantis will support school choice nationwide, protect parental rights, reform accreditation, and steer funding towards programs and institutions that support the jobs of the future. Our students will learn how to read, write, do math, and think critically instead of learning to hate our country. DeSantis will educate artisans and engineers instead of politicized administrators and bureaucrats, seeking to accelerate students along these career paths as early as possible." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Criminal justice
In a Republican debate DeSantis said, "These hollowed out cities, this is a symptom of America’s decline. And one of the biggest reasons is because you have George Soros funding these radical left-wing district attorneys. They get into office and they say they’re not going to prosecute crimes. [...] And as President, we’re going to go after all of these people because they are hurting the quality of life, and they are victimizing innocent people in every corner of this country, and it will stop when I get into office." [source, as of 2023-08-23]
Foreign policy
DeSantis' campaign website listed the following pillars of his foreign policy plan, "Seizing the Initiative, Recovering American Deterrence, Securing the Peace; Revamping National Economic Security to Beat China's Economic Coercion; Dominating the Technologies of Today and Tomorrow; Protecting the Homeland; Revitalizing U.S. Sovereignty and Countering China with Allies." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Abortion
In a Republican debate DeSantis said, "I’m going to stand on the side of life. Look, I understand, Wisconsin is going to do it different than Texas. I understand Iowa and New Hampshire are going to do different. But I will support the cause of life as governor and as president." [source, as of 2023-08-23]
Administrative state
In an op-ed DeSantis wrote, "I will use all available constitutional authority to restore accountability in the executive branch, move agencies out of Washington, D.C., and slash the bureaucratic state, restrict foreign lobbying and post-employment revolving doors by former government officials, and ban individual stock trading by members of Congress and executive branch officials." [source, as of 2023-08-07]
Coronavirus response
In a Republican debate DeSantis said, "Why are we in this mess? Part of it, and a major reason is because how this federal government handed COVID-19 by locking down this economy. It was a mistake. It should have never happened. And in Florida, we led the country out of lockdown. We kept our state free and open. And I can tell you this. As your President, I will never let the deep state bureaucrats lock you down. You don’t take somebody like Fauci and coddle him. You bring Fauci in. You sit him down. And you say, Anthony, you are fired." [source, as of 2023-08-23]
Election policy
In a Republican debate DeSantis said, "What you should do for election integrity is do what we did in Florida. 20 years ago, Florida and elections was a joke. Everybody would laugh at it. I came in, I removed a couple supervisors from South Florida. We require voter ID universal, no Zuckerbucks, no mass mail balloting and no ballot harvesting. We even have an agency that prosecutes people for violating election laws. The result of that in both 2020 and 2022, we counted millions and millions of votes on election night, produced the results, it was transparent and everybody was happy." [source, as of 2023-12-06]
Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG)
DeSantis' campaign website said, "DeSantis will not tolerate woke corporations using ESG as an end-run around our constitutional system to impose heavy-handed, left-wing edicts through concentrated private power. There will be no ideological litmus test for getting a loan, establishing a bank account, or running a business." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Opioids and drug issues
DeSantis' campaign website said, "I will wage war on narco-trafficking in Mexico and throughout Latin America. I will designate the Mexican drug cartels as Transnational Criminal Organizations, and I will sanction cartels, their leaders, and other entities that provide support for drug trafficking. I will authorize appropriate rules of engagement at the border so that those trying to smuggle drugs into the United States are met with the use of force." [source, as of 2023-12-19]
Veterans
DeSantis’ campaign website listed the following policies, “Address root causes, facilitate timely access to care, and increase support for PTS, depression, and substance abuse. Expand benefits, educational training, and work opportunities to assist veterans in the transition to civilian life. Expand the VA FOX Grant program and ensure funding goes to state and local entities. Make the Executive Director of VA Suicide Prevention a politically appointed position that reports directly to the Secretary. Create a uniform veteran status verification tool for local counties and municipalities, ensuring better data on veteran suicide.” [source, as of 2023-12-19]

Declaration of Economic Independence People across our nation are collapsing under an economy that no longer works for the American family. Americans have been saddled with persistently high prices and weak economic growth. And a family-focused economy means having the courage to take on our enemies. We are no longer going to Kow-Tow to Wall Street and big corporations who don't have your interests front and center. We are no longer going to sell out to China at the expense of the American working family. The American Dream is slipping away from our nation's middle class. Federal government policies -- COVID lockdowns, reckless borrowing, printing and spending -- have escalated the costs of life's essentials so much so that buying a home, purchasing a car, or starting a family is cost prohibitive; and for many, even affording groceries has become a matter of saving. The bottom half of American households have less wealth today than in 1989 while the top 10% have added $29 trillion in wealth over the same period. This trend accelerated in 2020 with Covid lockdowns and money-printing, crippling the market share of small business, diminishing the purchasing power of middle-class wages, and upending our workforce. Over six million prime-age men are neither working nor looking for work. The labor force participation rate for this group fell from 98% in 1953 to 89% today. Mass illegal immigration has undercut American jobs and wages, the rule of law, and our wider social fabric. We have spent hundreds of billions propping up our broken university system, which charges exorbitant tuition and fees while producing substandard results, leaving students behind, often buried in debt and in weaker positions to start families. Deaths of despair due to opioids, alcoholism, and suicide surged for Americans without a college degree -- with rates doubling between 2000 and 2017. Depression and anxiety have risen even higher in the wake of the pandemic lockdowns. Over the last decade, Americans' life expectancy has fallen. This is not normal. Yet, entrenched Washington politicians in both parties refuse to change course. Why would they? For those connected to the DC ruling class, life has never been better. Five of the eight wealthiest counties in the US are suburbs of Washington, DC. Multinational corporations, especially in sectors such as tech, have seen a massive surge in wealth while selling our assets and outsourcing our industrial base to China. Since 2020, our nation's growth has essentially been in 7 large technology companies like Apple and Google; the increase in market capitalization of these companies has exceeded the increase in our nominal GDP over the same period of time. The elites that have orchestrated policies leading to our current state of malaise have failed. Time and again, those entrenched in power have imposed policies on us that have proved short-sighted and counterproductive. Nearly a quarter century ago, we were told that welcoming Communist China into the World Trade Organization and granting it 'most favored nation" trading status would lead to democratic reforms in China, would protect against forced transfers of technology, would not cause manufacturing to relocate to China, and would safeguard against surges of imports from China. What actually happened? China has grown more authoritarian, more powerful, and more ambitious. The asymmetric relationship between the US and China that has developed is characterized by China's theft of our intellectual property, trade dumping, currency manipulation, and espionage. America has seen its industrial base hollowed out, developed a dangerous dependence on Chinese supply chains, and witnessed the exposure of American companies to a hostile security apparatus. The 2008 Wall Street bailout and associated policies have also proven to be costly for Americans. Boom and bust economic policies are deeply unfair to hard-working Americans, who are left holding the bag -- with nothing to show for it except higher prices for everyday essentials. The rise of so-called quantitative easing (QE) as a mainstay of monetary policy has made the wealthy richer while neglecting the middle class. Major corporations have secured massive carveouts and bailouts, a form of venture socialism in which gains are privatized and losses are born by taxpayers; and have avoided accountability for mismanagement. "Too big to fail" for big institutions has led to "too difficult to succeed" for the middle class. More recently, the elite's response to COVID-19 -- lockdowns, mandates, and massive borrowing and spending -- has proven disastrous. In Florida, we led the charge to drag our nation out of lockdown, to protect freedom, to ensure the viability of small businesses, and to preserve the education of our youth. We cut against the grain of elite opinion and faced massive blowback for bucking the system, but we stood our ground. We fought for Floridians who were being ignored by the elites, whose livelihoods hung in the balance, and who didn't have a voice. We were their voice. We were their fighter. And the result is that Florida has never done better.
In Florida, we beat the elites -- and we have shown the way forward to restore American economic freedom and opportunity. Just as we fought for the well-being of Floridians, we will take that same spirit to DC to fight for Americans across the nation. Revitalizing economic freedom and opportunity today will require more than just tax cuts -- it will require building an economy where the concerns of average citizens are elevated above those deemed "too big to fail." Our declaration of economic independence requires us to focus our agenda on rebuilding the American Dream for our middle class. We will reshore, diversify and expand our economy, rewarding hard work and empowering our citizens to control their own destinies. We will usher in a new era of strong growth, wide prosperity and civic pride. We are a nation with an economy, not the other way around. We Americans are citizens of a republic, not cogs in the wheel of a global economy. We will not tolerate technocratic management of American decline. We do not seek to keep Americans dependent upon a fatter welfare check or a larger unemployment benefit. We seek to reverse the decline and restore American greatness:
We will declare our economic independence:
The goal of our declaration of economic independence is simple: We win. They lose. RON DESANTIS' DECLARATION OF ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE Taking Back Control of our Economy from China and Restoring our Economic Sovereignty

MISSION FIRST After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, I felt a calling to volunteer and to serve our country in uniform. I passed on more lucrative financial opportunities because I believed I should do my part while our nation was engaged in conflict. I ended up joining the Navy, earning a commission as a JAG Officer, and deploying to Iraq as a senior legal advisor to Navy SEAL Team One in places such as Fallujah, Ramadi, and the rest of Al Anbar province. When you wear the cloth of your country, serving alongside fellow patriots, when you're pursuing a mission greater than your personal self-interest, there's value to that money can't buy. It's something that I, like many veterans, take real pride in. More than any time in my life, veterans are questioning whether they'd want their children or grandchildren to join today's military because they see the military losing its focus. But it's not merely sad---it's dangerous, too. Recruiting is suffering. 2022 was the worst year for recruiting in the history of the all-volunteer force, and every military service is missing their recruiting goals---some by as much as 50%. This, while our ammunition stocks are being depleted, and while China is rising as an increasingly powerful adversary. We cannot tolerate political agendas in our military. We cannot allow military and civilian leaders to use our armed forces for social experimentation or to advance woke ideology. We must restore our military to its proper function. The military's mission is to defend America. Any distraction from our military's mission will be eliminated under my administration. My mission will be building and maintaining a military whose focus is to deter wars while having the capability and lethality to fight wars and overwhelmingly win them if necessary. We will revive a culture that makes service members proud to serve and attracts Americans to enlist. We need to have a military that is lethal, ready and capable. Every policy in the military, every personnel decision in the military, and every funding decision in the military needs to be aimed towards that. Our military needs to be focused on one thing: Mission First. BREAKING THE DEI SWAMP We are going to rip the DEI bureaucracy out of the Department of Defense. Here's how: when it comes to employees in "diversity and inclusion" positions, we're going to fire who we can and reassign whoever we can't. We are going to eliminate every senior administrative DEI position at the Pentagon. Every permanent employee in a "diversity and inclusion" position will be reassigned. We're also going to make sure that the service academies are just as aligned with the mission as the rest of the military. Right now, that focus isn't there. Soldiers at the academies have reported being forced to take part in "privilege walks," where they had to separate themselves by race and gender and acknowledge their "racial privilege." Others said that members were encouraged to report their fellow members who voiced the belief that "All Lives Matter." At the Naval Academy, professors were recommending that midshipmen read Ibram X. Kendi's How to be an Antiracist, which explicitly prescribes overt racial discrimination as a solution to racism. None of this helps develop the next generation of competent military leaders. As president, I will require that service academies teach disciplines that are directly connected to military needs. Our future young officers should be learning about military history, leadership, and nuclear engineering---not white privilege, systemic racism, and unconscious bias. Remember---attendees at the service academies have their tuition paid for by the taxpayer. We have the right to insist that the available academic disciplines help make our military more capable, ready, and lethal. RIP POLITICAL AGENDAS OUT OF OUR MILIITARY We're going to bar the Department of Defense's health insurer, Tricare, from covering puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and sex change surgeries. The military is going to stop being focused on woke gender nonsense, and it is going to go back to being focused on readiness, capability, and lethality. REINSTATING UNVACCINATED SERVICEMEMBERS But more than that, think of all the training that these special operators go through to be able to execute the most dangerous missions that our military has to offer. When I was supporting a SEAL team as a JAG in Iraq, I was truly in awe of their skill and bravery. Special operators don't just grow on trees, and if our military is going to stay capable, ready, and lethal, we need to reverse this terrible policy that drove so many good soldiers away. As governor, I signed legislation banning the use of COVID-19 vaccine mandates in Florida. When I'm President, we are going to ban COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the military, and we're going to allow troops who were kicked out for refusing the vaccine to be reinstated to their prior rank and with back pay. ELIMINATE RACIAL PREFRENCING IN THE MILITARY Women should be able to serve in units where they meet the relevant physical standards---but there should be no reduction in standards just to ensure that every unit has the "right" amount of each gender. As President, I will require all military services to impose gender neutral physical qualification standards. I will ban race and gender quotas in military recruiting and promotions and mandate that all personnel decisions be based on merit. And I will ensure that any commander suspected of using racial or gender preferences in promotions is investigated. It's not healthy for society when people are discriminated against based on their race or sex. But in the military, it's not just unethical, it's dangerous. ACCOUNTABILITY FOR TALKING HEAD GENERALS To fix this problem, we're going to stop issuing security clearances to retired military officials. They can have their tv hits, they just shouldn't get to pretend that they are the bearers of some secret classified knowledge when they do so. We're also not going to tolerate any top-level officials lying under oath. When people like James Clapper brazenly lie to Congress and face no consequences, it diminishes our country. That hurts recruiting. If any officials lie under oath in my administration, I will fire them. Our generals must be held to a higher standard than the rank-and-file. They are responsible for setting the tone for the entire military, and they are the public face of the entire military. When they act in a cravenly partisan fashion, they debase the entire institution. This isn't just a matter of national honor; it's a matter of national security. If people do not respect our military, they will not sign up for our military, and the recruitment crisis will get worse and worse. Our military cannot be capable, ready, and lethal if it can't even find people willing to serve. TURNING THE TIDE But as President, I won't rest on my laurels when it comes to recruiting. I'll use the bully pulpit to engage Americans on the power and meaning of military service. I know how much it meant to me and my life; I will work tirelessly to persuade young people that it's worth wearing the uniform. I'll expand JROTC programs and civics programs in secondary schools, and work with the Department of Defense to understand what other issues might be hurting recruitment. Because at the end of the day, this isn't about a culture war. It's about deterring a real war. The world is a dangerous place, and if we want peace, we must be strong. We will make our military capable, ready, and lethal, and we will keep Americans safe. Rip Political Agendas Out of Our Military

Turn the Tide Against Biden's Military Recruitment Crisis
STOP THE INVASION Biden's gross dereliction of duty has left the southern border in shambles. Millions of illegal aliens have entered the United States during Biden's administration, including criminal aliens and individuals suspected by the U.S. government of terrorism, which has overwhelmed communities across the nation. Thanks to Biden, border patrol lacks the needed resources, manpower and policy support to do the job the way rank-and-file agents desire. Vast expanses of the border have no barrier at all, as the needed border wall is far short of completion. The Mexican drug cartels have capitalized on Biden's failure by trafficking humans and drugs across the border at record levels. The drugs that infiltrated our country have devastated communities from coast to coast: fentanyl trafficked across the southern border is now the leading killer of Americans between the ages of 18 and 50. This epic failure to reclaim our sovereignty has caused harms that touch millions of Americans in their daily lives. Public safety has suffered. El Paso, TX used to be a quiet, orderly town, yet they recently had to suspend their streetcar service because there were some 1,800 illegal aliens sleeping on the sidewalk. And it's not just El Paso---every border town is under assault: sidewalks filled with illegals from around the world, emergency rooms overflowing, ranches and homes overrun, and public safety shredded because Joe Biden has refused to meet his most basic responsibility of upholding American sovereignty. Illegal immigration has also hollowed out the wages of the American working class. As the economy has grown over the past few decades the wages of the working class have remained stagnant on an inflation-adjusted basis. That should not be a surprise given how American workers are consistently undercut by cheaper illegal labor. Mass illegal immigration is also fundamentally unfair to immigrants who make their way to the United States legally. Some wait a decade in line for their turn to immigrate. Our system spits in the faces of those who respect our laws by allowing illegal aliens to break those laws with functional impunity. The Biden Administration is the critical link in an illegal transnational human smuggling syndicate. Through their soft policies and softer public statements, they have made clear to potential migrants that the door to the United States is open, so long as you are willing to make a harrowing and dangerous journey in the hands of Mexican drug cartels. It is no surprise that children are being brought unaccompanied across the border in the hands of gangsters; rather, it is an entirely predictable consequence of Joe Biden’s policies. His unwillingness to stand up to his party and secure the border makes him an accessory to every act of violence committed by the cartels against migrant children. And we have seen plenty of them. Last year, I asked the Florida Supreme Court for permission to empanel a grand jury to investigate reports of children being abused on their journey to the United States and after they arrived. The Supreme Court agreed, and the Florida Attorney General, Ashley Moody, has uncovered some horrifying stories. For just one example: One Honduran mother of four agreed to “rent” three of her four children, ages six months to twelve years, to three different Honduran men so they could pass through the Texas border as families. This mother, in exchange, was to receive free passage for herself and all four kids. All these men had previously been deported—but they knew that if they tried again accompanied by a child, the Border Patrol would let them pass, even though they were deportable. This led to a six-month-old infant being left with a family of strangers in Florida for months. Make no mistake: Joe Biden’s administration has made the most inhumane policy choice possible on the border. Dangling jobs to migrants as a reward here in the United States, so long as they are willing to bring an unrelated minor child along with them, should be something out of a dystopian novel. But it’s happening right here, right now, and it’s time for us to stop it. NO EXCUSES We know how to get infrastructure built quickly and cut through red tape. After Hurricane Ian, Pine Island in Florida was completely cut off from the mainland. I ordered the Florida Department of Transportation to assist, and within 24 hours, we had more than 130 trucks rolling in and crews got to work. We didn’t just get it done—we got it done in three days, and emergency personnel were able to get on the island and start rebuilding. If needed, I’ll happily send those same crews to the southern border to get the wall built. We will end catch-and-release and ensure that migrants are held in detention while they are awaiting the resolution of their claims, and not just released into the interior of the country. We will reimpose Remain in Mexico and stop the flood of phony asylum claims. We will hire more Border Patrol agents and more removal agents to make sure that even if illegal immigrants cross, they will swiftly be found and deported. We will take action to end the idea that the children of illegal aliens are entitled to birthright citizenship if they are born in the United States. Dangling the prize of citizenship to the future offspring of illegal immigrants is a major driver of illegal migration. It is also inconsistent with the original understanding of 14th Amendment, and we will force the courts and Congress to finally address this failed policy. We will work aggressively to increase pay for Border Patrol agents, to address recruitment, retention, and morale. Border Patrol agents work tirelessly to protect this country, and they have been repeatedly disrespected by the Biden Administration. That will stop on day one of my Presidency. When we build the wall, migrants won’t think they can cross. When we hire more Border Patrol agents, we’ll stop those who try. When we step up deportations, migrants won’t think they can stay here, even if they somehow managed to cross. Also, many migrants don’t start their journey in Mexico—caravans of South American migrants routinely come north, starting by crossing the Panama-Colombia border near the Panama Canal. We will work with the Panamanian and Colombian governments to shut down crossings across this border and stop the caravans before they get started. FIGHTING THE CARTELS This has to stop. I will wage war on narco-trafficking in Mexico and throughout Latin America. I will designate the Mexican drug cartels as Transnational Criminal Organizations, and I will sanction cartels, their leaders, and other entities that provide support for drug trafficking. I will authorize appropriate rules of engagement at the border so that those trying to smuggle drugs into the United States are met with the use of force. Right now, cartel operatives cut through portions of the border wall with impunity and poison our communities with dangerous drugs; that ends on January 20, 2025. We will also engage in additional direct action as needed to counter cartel activities. And if the Mexican Government doesn’t do something about stopping the precursor chemicals for drugs going through Mexican ports into cartel hands, we’ll send in the Coast Guard and the Navy. THE FLORIDA BLUEPRINT Florida is a maritime border state: illegal migrants regularly try to reach our shores by sea. During my term as Governor, we saw illegal migrants trying to cross in tiny, unsafe dinghies. Now, for the most part, this is the responsibility of the federal Coast Guard. Even so, I signed an executive order to surge state resources and help the Coast Guard interdict these boats. The result was a massive decrease in successful maritime crossings and repatriation of tens of thousands of foreign nationals—and a large decrease in attempts. The lesson? When illegal aliens think they will get caught, they do not come. We also realize that so long as the White House is occupied by a man who couldn’t care less about border security, like-minded state governors and law enforcement officials will have to step into the breach. That’s why I formed an interstate law-enforcement partnership to bring Florida’s successful anti-illegal immigration policies and practices to more American communities. As president, I will set up a Joint Counter-Cartel Task Force to direct and prioritize anti-cartel efforts by our law enforcement and intelligence agencies. I haven’t just taken executive action to confront the problem of mass illegal migration. During my time as Governor, I have signed landmark legislation to combat illegal immigration. We have banned sanctuary cities, required a legal workforce by enacting E-Verify, enhanced penalties for human smuggling, and barred drivers licenses and ID cards for illegal aliens. We’ve also dedicated resources to relocate migrants to sanctuary jurisdictions, such as Martha’s Vineyard and California, relieving overrun border communities and bringing the reality of the border crisis to those who support Biden’s open border policies. Until we have a closed border, the jurisdictions who support open borders should bear the consequences of their policy preferences. We’ve made fighting the effects of illegal immigration a top priority in the State of Florida. As President, I will take that focus and energy and use it to fix our border crisis, once and for all. NO EXCUSES: STOP THE INVASION As president, Ron DeSantis will secure operational control of our border.

FARMERS FOR DESANTIS Ron DeSantis: Ag is essential for America's revival. I will stand with our farmers. America must take a page from Iowa's farmers to better harvest our resources, accommodate nature's challenges, and cultivate a culture resilient to history's seasons. America is in a state of decline. Merely managing the decline a little bit better than the Biden administration will not cut it. We must reverse American decline and usher in a revival of America's economy, military strength, and way of life. A robust agriculture sector is a key part of a stronger America, especially when it comes to the vitality of family farms and ranches. Agriculture is essential for America's economic revival, as well as for our nation's security, because food security is necessary for strong national security. In traveling across Iowa, I have spoken with farmers, ranchers, and others involved in the state's agriculture industry about the challenges they face. Iowa farmers exemplify the values --- faith in God, belief in family, and love of country --- that serve as the foundation of America and do a great job feeding the world. Yet, the federal government insists on making it more difficult to farm. As president, I will not allow unelected federal bureaucrats to stifle American agriculture. The federal government is out of control. This hurts our economy and critical industries like agriculture and distorts the very idea of constitutional government. I oppose the Biden administration's heavy-handed push for electric vehicles. For many, such vehicles are impractical and unaffordable, undermining the economics of states like Iowa that rely on biofuels --- while making Americans even more dependent on China. We will save the American automobile and will not let the government force you into buying an electric vehicle. We need to embrace energy that is produced in America and that supports American jobs. As president, I will work with leaders like Gov. Kim Reynolds to support her request for approval of E15 for year-round use. My administration will also support giving drivers additional low-cost options at the pump, including higher ethanol blends such as E30 and higher octane options, and ensure that America's fuel economy is driven by moms in Marion, not bureaucrats in Washington. Washington needs to allow more freedom of choice in its transportation options and get out of the way of innovation. The Biden administration wants to end liquid fuels. EPA's proposed eRIN credits for electric vehicles will backfire on America. eRINs will decrease demand for farm-grown biofuels, raising costs for producers and consumers alike. Worse, eRINs promote EVs dependent on Chinese batteries and minerals, undercutting U.S. energy security. My administration will toss this proposed rule in the trash, not phase out American energy and empower China. As president, I will also oppose attempts to use the economy to impose the preferred ideological agendas of the elites, such as exemplified by the so-called ESG movement. ESG is bad for agriculture --- it seeks to expose social credit scores, penalize traditional farming practices, and even disfavor the use of meat. Such policies could very well generate a farm crisis. Elites that gather in places like Davos for the World Economic Forum seek to micromanage all aspects of society. Those types of policies will be dead on arrival in the DeSantis administration. Biden has also failed to enhance the network of locks, dams, trains, and trucking lanes that underpin our agriculture and energy sectors. My administration will instruct the Army Corps of Engineers to modernize this system, including the critical locks and dams that enable cost-effective transport on the Mississippi and other waterways. Building out this infrastructure will be essential in reclaiming the 21st century for America. Part of that effort will also involve opening foreign markets to American exports. Many countries maintain high tariffs and other barriers to American goods and commodities. I will pursue new trade opportunities to benefit American farmers, ranchers, and producers. News outlets recently reported that China now owns 380,000 acres of American land. China increasingly wields power over the global food supply, posing risks to our domestic food security and access to foreign markets. Iowa farmland should be sown by Iowans, not the CCP. In Florida, we blocked foreign countries of concern, including China, from purchasing farmland or property near U.S. military installations and critical infrastructure. As president, I will stop selling America's future out from under our feet. China has also begun to actively steal agricultural data and technology. I will ensure our agriculture policies include protections against cyber espionage and IP theft. I will also focus on ensuring our agricultural infrastructure is safe from cyber-attacks and other disruptions that have targeted co-ops and meatpacking plants in recent years. I will also keep ideologues in California off the backs of Iowa's farmers and producers. California has tried to use its market power to dictate how Midwest farmers raise livestock and steward water. I will prevent both federal and state overreach from obstructing our agricultural industry. To visit Iowa is to understand that our farmers are the greatest stewards of our land. The sustainable practices and methods they develop preserve our natural resources for the next generation. Oppressive government policies like the Green New Deal and WOTUS fail to respect farmers' natural care for the land while prioritizing ideology over practicality. I will repeal all of Biden's harmful regulations on Day 1 and empower our farmers to make the most of our nation's land. With farmers aging and facing uncertain profitability, we need policies that support young farmers and the industry long-term. Reduced capital gains taxes, wider expensing for land development, investment credits for conservation practices, and better land transfer options would help grow the next generation of farmers. There should be no "death tax" for family farms. If America is to thrive in the 21st century, we must take a page from Iowa's farmers to better harvest our resources, accommodate nature's challenges, and cultivate a culture resilient to history's seasons. As president, I will cut regulations that hamstring our farmers, open new markets for our crops and livestock, incentivize growth and investment, modernize critical infrastructure, secure our agricultural sector from cyber threats, and offer targeted support to farmers where needed. Iowa farmers' ingenuity and productivity will continue to bear an essential witness to our nation's spirit. Combined with the right leadership in Washington, that spirit will help fuel our great American comeback and end our nation's decline.
