L'Ordre et la Morale plot
April 1988. Ouéva Island, New Caledonia. A group of independence fighters made up of the local residents, the Kanaken, attack the Fayaoué police station, kill four officers and kidnap 30 who are held hostage in a remote cave on the small island. The French state sends an army of 300 soldiers and a veritable arsenal to restore order. Between the first and second rounds of the presidential elections, which pit François Mitterand against his Prime Minister Jacques Chirac, Captain Philippe Legorjus of the GIGN (Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, the anti-terrorism unit of the French Gendarmerie) will negotiate for 10 days with all the protagonists of this drama, without, however, preventing 19 Kanaks and two soldiers from being killed in the final storm.
