I too used to be fond of Pooh and all his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. He was in any case one of the first Disney creations I came into contact with and the result was that I had a lot of films, books, games and toys in my possession and spent many hours with them. When I saw the trailer for this Christopher Robin I knew for sure: I had to see this!

The movie actually lived up to my expectations. I was hoping for a cute movie where the characters from back then would come back to life and that's exactly what Christopher Robin has to offer. I agree that the film needs a bit of a kick to get going at the beginning (although I didn't think the beginning was bad), but from the moment Pooh and Christopher reunited, I was right in the middle and thoroughly enjoying it. The cuddly toys are very sweetly designed and fortunately they have exactly the same properties as their drawn equivalents. In addition, Ewan McGregor puts down a very sympathetic title character and the other cast, including Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss and the voice actors, also do a great job. There is a healthy dose of successful humor in it, but the film also manages to move regularly without coming across as overly sentimental or exaggerated.

It has been a nice adventure. London is always good for me, so it's nice that most of the film is set there. However, I was just as happy with what takes place in the aforementioned Hundred Acre Wood. What a fantastic way that setting has been brought to life! This is truly a film that I can recommend to young and old alike. This works great for children as a first introduction to Pooh, but is also very nice youth sentiment for the viewer who has been familiar with the bear for a while.

4*

Sadly disappointed me. In my opinion the film is very slow and the animals also move painfully slowly. I still hoped that Eeyore - one of my favorite book characters - could still save the day, but he was also very disappointing. Eeyore, the grumpy donkey with his inferiority complex who always dares to be so uninhibited and shamelessly depressed. At least in the books. I love it.

'They probably don't have brains; just some gray fluff that has accidentally blown into their heads and they're not thinking.'

Unlike Eeyore, the Hundred Acre Wood looks very depressing, but it lacked the cosiness and warmth of EH Shepard's timeless drawings, which are etched in my memory.

Disney

This society can usually be stolen from me, luckily they sometimes surprise me. Not that this film doesn't fit perfectly within their sugary-sweet oeuvre. But luckily it is not a 1 on 1 copy of an earlier animation and if there is 1 good person who always manages to take away my cynicism, it is Winnie the Pooh. Remains a wonderful character with a nice dry voice actor. In any case, Forster has done smart to keep the cast nice and sympathetic (and British). With nice little supporting roles from Mark Gatiss and Matt Berry. I also liked the scenario-wise that the hugs in the real world also remained themselves and could potentially be seen by everyone. This made it all a bit less predictable and the film had a good pace.

Not as good as Paddington 2. But it's also extremely good. But by Disney standards this was a very good movie. Finally the technical team can work on something fun, it was awarded to them because that was again very strong in this film.

Unfortunately the box office was less enthusiastic I believe so we won't be seeing this much more often. Can I get annoyed by Marvel and the 1 on 1 remakes again?

3.5 stars.
