I think this Asterix cartoon is less known to the general public. I remember seeing this for the first time on the BBC, an English version without subtitles. Since the cartoon is very faithful to the comic strip "Asterix and the British", it was still easy to follow even though my English was not that good at the time. It will probably never become one of my favorites although I think this one is better than the first cartoon and also better than "Asterix versus Caesar" and certainly better than "Asterix and the Vikings". The best are the scenes in which one of the Roman commanders slides over the waxed floor of his superior, each time unwillingly mutilating statues. That and the drooling dog are the only pieces that don't appear in the comic I think. Despite the slavish following of the book, a very nice film that I like to rewatch.

The penultimate film we saw yesterday during the Asterix-Marathon.

A significant improvement over Asterix versus Caesar. Original voice acting, no two stories crammed into one film, no dramatic music. Still, this movie doesn't quite work. The comic book is followed very closely, and comics have a different dynamic than cartoons, so the humor works differently. The result is that the film is nice to look at, but not very memorable. 2*

An animation in the vein of the films of Lucky Luke or Tintin, which stays very close to the comic and is mainly an animated version of the paper comic. So few surprises and creative also keeps it safe with the original. There is nothing wrong with that of course, but the question is whether it would not be better to remain a comic. Unlike the paper, the animation is a bit outdated after all these years. Such a film also quickly demands a lot more budget.

Asterix and the Brits isn't the best story in the series either, but it does have its moments. The end result is a nice animation, but only the fans will enjoy it. It's not more than average either.
