Nice that after all these years on the site I still find films that I have seen but that I have not voted for yet.

I like this fairytale version more than the live action version. the film contains hilarious humorous and comedic moments. and although the animation is not of an unparalleled level, that just adds to the charm.

And those pirates are fantastic

This print is a lot better than its predecessor. They remain very faithful to the comic book of the same name with a number of important changes such as the spy who looks completely different here than in the comic and even appears to have magical powers. The character Klerkis is completely omitted in the cartoon because of his very limited role. There are also the Egyptian mercenaries who do not appear in the comic either. All those edits help the story. The musical numbers except for the dream are very amusing. "Cleopatra's Bath" is arguably the best scene in all of the Asterix movies. After so many years it still makes me laugh And yes the pirates. In the comic they sink their own ship, but it's nice that they do show the fight in the cartoon. How to enter

Yes Metalfist was talking about the English song when the heroes sleep. I had never seen this song until I watched the version on DVD. The TV and VHS versions always omitted this scene. And actually I didn't mind because it doesn't contribute to the story at all.

The final piece of the Asterix marathon yesterday, because we wanted to save the best for last.

This movie contains everything that makes an Asterix movie fun. A fantastically nonsensical opening on how to dub the film, amusing comments from Obelix like "in a menhir this would never have happened" when they are lost in the pyramids and light-hearted music such as the piano tune as the pirate chief in the hold of his ship is beaten. But the absolute highlight is the song including dance while preparing the poisonous cake. I have compared on youtube how this song sounds in other languages, and the result is really that I like the Dutch version the most. The German is (not surprisingly, despite the fact that they do nothing but dub) terrible, the English and especially the French are nice, but the nice thing about the Dutch is that in addition to the nice voices, they also consistently sing a little too late, which gives an extra comic effect.

Furthermore, I was also surprised by the surreal food scene in English that suddenly came in between and that I did not know yet. It didn't look indispensable now either.

Together with Asterix en de Helden the best film. Maybe I like the last one a bit more, but this one is definitely worth 4*.
