Layer Cake plot

A successful cocaine dealer (Daniel Craig) has earned his place in the English mafia elite and decides to leave the business. But big boss Jimmy Price still has a tough job ahead of him. He must track down Charlotte, the missing daughter of an old friend of Jimmy's. There are a number of things that complicate this simple assignment: Class A ecstasy worth 2 million pounds, a group of heavy-handed Neo-Nazis and no one he can trust. In this world there are no rules, no codes and certainly no respect. It will be the ultimate last assignment.

Great crime/thriller. Layer Cake can be compared to movies like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The film is certainly not inferior to these two classics. On the contrary: Layer Cake is just as interesting and exciting. The biggest difference is that there is hardly any comedy in Layer Cake. A touch here and there but nothing more. The film is also hip and does not feel like a dusty crime story. The film is well shot and the quality is dripping. The locations are well chosen and the atmosphere is great.

Daniel Craig steals the show as the charming cocaine dealer XXXX (the lack of a name immediately adds something mysterious to the character). A perfect role for Craig. Personally, I think he is even slightly better than James Bond in this role. It's hard to dislike the dealer and soon you'll just have sympathy for him. The whole cast is doing well but I definitely have to mention Michael Gambon. The actor who is best known for his role as Dumbledore in Harry Potter. It's nice to see him in a different role than I'm used to. He radiates authority and wisdom. He is very similar to other characters in that regard.

Layer Cake is a very nice sitting. A genuine British crime film of a high standard. The film manages to stay interesting from start to finish and surprises with the ending. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this film is a lot more unknown than the aforementioned films and that is a shame. Layer Cake certainly belongs among the high-grossing films.

The kind of crime movie Guy Ritchie could have had a hand in. Although. The plot is a bit too ostentatious for that. The humor is a bit too intrusive for that. And the cinematic style is a bit too conventional for that. Although, on the other hand, to be honest: 'Layer cake' is quite enjoyable in its genre.

And the underlying motive, in summary? Bad friends make bad things. Or: 'La damnation de Faust'! Sell your soul to the devil, and you won't get it back. What's more, you are being duped from all sides...
