The pros:
- Still has good animation
- A nice extra arc and a cute-ish ending to parts of the story
The cons:
- Every fight in the movie is super weak. Don't expect a single cool anime battle in this, it's just politics and romance
- Not very original, it even visually looks the same as what you've already watched
- Nothing major happens in the movie other than romance, making it skippable
Watchable if you liked the anime and still not bad, but also disappointing and skippable
...
Is the story unique? If it was predictable, did you enjoy it anyway because you like this genre/set-up? - Not very, little is added to the depth of the world of the original anime and the enemies are almost the same as always. And every time a big enemy appears, it just dies immediately
Do you think the art style is fitting for the story? - Yes, the animation remains good and similar if not identical to the anime
Were the characters well-rounded? Did they have flaws and strengths, or were they unusually strong/smart/stupid? - The characters are basically the same as before, but there's more romance shoved in. Not as remarkable as the initial presentation of the characters
Did the characters react to situations and events in a realistic way? - Sort of
Do you think others will enjoy/dislike this series, even if you didn't? Why? - I think most people will be ok with it because it kept some of the good parts of the original anime, but it can be a big disappointment if people wanted real action or a good plot, because there are lots of disappointments throughout the movie as in the plot just getting rid of things to rush it to fit on the movie or not bringing anything interesting that we could be expecting and waiting for.

The last two episodes managed to drop my rating from an overall 8 rating to a 2. I've only been this pissed off with anime 3 times in my life, congratulations. I won't spoil and while I know some people might find the way the anime ended fine, it really isn't my thing and I can't reommend the anime thanks to that.
Right as Kouga starts sounding like he knows what he's doing and that he'll start being a decent character, he just drags the anime back downhill and into the pits of hell, being probably the worst anime character I've had the bad luck to
...
stumble upon. The whole anime ending is unsatisfying, ruining the nice building the anime had the effort to build throughout all episodes. It really is a shame, it feels like the author wanted to have some non-clichê ending or something like that so it decided to go with a bad ending intentionally (because there's no way he didn't know that ending was going to be horrible, I refuse to believe that), but then failed even that and just ended in a miserable and frustrating ending.
For people who like anime movies and anime with ridiculous endings where the most bastard characters triumph and get the good endings instead of the main character with no penalty whatsoever, I'd maybe still recommend this anime. All the good characters die or have the worst possible ending, no exception, all the prick characters stay alive and get the best possible ending, also no exceptions. Genuinely bad ending in every possible way.

Thank god it's over, everything past episode 12 is BS generic plot and bad CGI (computer-generated imagery )... Like, really, it's an impressive downgrade from an interesting beginning with good animation to an empty, predictable and boring childish plot.
The anime eventually reaches and develops to a point where you hope so the main characters are not faced against big monsters, as you already know they will very likely be animated through low quality computer-generated imagery, which not only doesn't fit, mix or blend with the 2D artwork, but also looks bad as a whole, such as the lack of detail and blurry textures, followed by
...
artificial-looking movement with no flow.
However, those visual elements could be forgiven for the sake of the plot, as anime isn't all about visuals; Except that the plot also has a similar downgrade to the visuals. The anime starts as a promising, well-animated anime, with a serious plot, good character development and uniqueness in general, while it gradually becomes a predictable anime, full of fillers and slice of life nonsense, becomes a generic harem with weak fights that do not engage you into watching them and rather feel like a pain, and it also becomes childish as mentioned, as everyone seems to have Alzheimer's and randomly becomes friends with other low IQ characters that are still effectively trying to kill them. The anime will disappoint you a lot if you're actually expecting people to pay for their crimes, as nothing actually happens, and just more and more nonsensical drama arises, the anime gives more and more focus on the things that aren't important, and, in the end, almost nobody gets punished for anything, the season randomly ends (thank god, as I won't be watching the second one), and the main character is still flooded with stupid problems I won't watch him face next season. I wanted to make this a short review as it's more of a rant than a review, but I felt the need of adding extra context to my reasoning. To sum up, I was expecting a more mature and developed anime, but Shield Hero brutally disappointed me and many fans with the plot downgrade that happens around the half, as if the writer suddenly changed his mind of what the anime was about, and also ran out of ideas. The whole anime is a big clickbait. I do not recomment.

I do know my opinion is very impopular, specially seeing the other ratings, but I just can't stop loving this anime. It's just the best thing that I, me, could have watched. I am one of the few who can see the beauty every single aspect of this anime has, and the lifestyle it lets us sneak peek. Every time when I re-watch this anime, every few years, it reminds me of who I am, may you laugh of it if you want, and I've planned for years on watching this with my loved one, if I ever find one.
Everything is just... So me. Or
...
how I should be. Or have been.
Focusing a bit more on the anime, there's a simply amazing-quality vivid animation, filled with everything you could ask for, be it romance, action, commedy, story or whatever. It's not the average person's masterpiece, but it is mine, and may be yours.
This anime just breaks many (in my opinion dumb) anime paradigms, by *not* having an annoying, effeminate main character that avoids the women he's interested into, or never decides who he wants and ends up "not biting any piece of the pie"; Ryosuke is simple and honest with everyone, and always keeps his goals "pure". I can't just ignore this, it's a hell of an acomplishment for an anime that I had never seen before. It has none of the annoying nonsense of luring the viewer into thinking something extraordinary he wants is going to happen over and over, and never happening. In this anime, it just happens, even when you are not expecting, and always surprises the viewer positively. Think of it, how many other anime did this? This is whi I think this is a masterpiece, and one of its kind.
Be this your (kind of) anime or not, it's definitely respectable.
\Side-note: I'd recommend watching in 1080p 60FPS (using SVP 4), if possible. If you enjoy this anime too, feel free to talk with me about it.

Firstly, I feel the need of making something clear.
The anime doesn't deserve the amount of hate it gets. It has very obvious flaws, some of them being the anime productor's direct fault and some not, which, mixed to babyrage and personal opinions disguised as facts cause an immense ball of rage that spins around Black Clover.
I am impressed on how the most voted opinion on this Anime is basically "it is trash and I don't care about other peoples' opinions, I am the only one right". And other people agreed, surprisingly, specially when it comes from a guy who only watched 10 episodes. It's really
...
laughable, plus the anime does get better later.
I please ask you not to get carried away by such empty and brainless reviews and critics about the anime made by people who don't actually care about proving a point on where the anime could improve and instead just assume that the fact they didn't like the anime makes it trash.
That said, I can start trying to point out actual pros and cons of the anime.
Honestly, it has very obvious flaws that I can't avoid mentioning, such as the weak animation, that makes it look like they couldn't afford better animations, which gets even more obvious when they try to mix in completely tridimensional objects within a 2D scene, and it completely stands out. This happens more often on the first episodes, and overall the graphical quality increases after the first few, which is *not* enough to ruin the anime experience, but seems to be enough to attract 50% of the hate the anime got.
Along with that, I can undestand the people who say the anime is cliche/generic. They do have a point (when they decide to actually speak instead of crying) on the fact that the anime isn't a new genre, but really, what is? That also still doesn't mean it's bad, and doesn't ruin the anime experience. If you are not interested in the anime's genre, don't start watching it, first of all. But if you do, the anime *can* be entertaining and fun if you ignore minor details such as graphical imperfections.
The third and last major complaint people make that I want to address is the anime not being like the manga. I do agree that most changes from the manga that happened were likely unecessary, but, really, this is something that just happens, and happens to almost any anime, no matter how big or small it is. I do admit it being another negative thing, but you *still* *can* live with it.
Below all those layer of dirt, in which I really hope Pierrot Studio ignores the hate it got but actually improve out of it, there IS good stuff on the anime. It has plenty of good elements, wheter they are good enough to suit your likes or not. It has plenty of action, magic, fantasy, very funny scenes... It can be fun to watch if you're into it and into the mood for it.
To sum it up, the anime might be cliche but still has positive points, if you let aside your huge ego and don't freak out if one line of the anime is different from the manga. And if you don't mind the main character screaming all the time. :)
Have a nice day
