"The courage to do the impossible lies in the hearts of men."

The story is set in the time after Napoleon and tells the story of the battle between the naval forces. Lucky Jack Aubrey (Russell Crowe) is captain of his beloved ship the 'HMS Surprise'. Completely unexpectedly, he is attacked by a warship, which in terms of equipment cannot be compared with his own ship. Aubrey's ship is left badly battered. Still, he decides not to resign, even though it could mean the demise of the Surprise.

Beautiful movie! With one of the best actors of the moment, Russell Crowe. A breath of fresh air amidst all that Pirates of the Caribbean violence.

You can hear the ship's wood creak, delicious!

I went up a full point. That doesn't happen often with me, but maybe expectations were different when seeing the first viewing experience. Now that I've seen it for the second or third time, I think it's a fascinating film. Maybe not in terms of tension, but very realistically portrayed. Everything feels very natural. Apart from the little boy who had a little too much bravado and wisdom, which of course is not possible at that age. Well played in this movie. But the build-up is fantastic, the naval terms fascinating and the story very acceptable. In addition, the battles are well portrayed. The soundtrack is pleasant, although you should not hear the monotonous violin playing too often. Dialogues were good and not forced. As said, natural and certainly not romanticized.

The film starts hauntingly and the end is surprising. If you look carefully through everything, a lot of detail has been done. Now take that walking branch. That was the trigger for the final fight. Masterful indeed!

Very strong roles, especially by Paul Bettany. The trip to the Galapagos Islands also provides the necessary variety. And we get an image of sailors that is fortunately not limited to screaming and drinking. Not all action but well written.
