To me, this manga is an excellent exploration of the struggles of loneliness, anxiety, depression, and fear of intimacy. While it is deeply personal and specific, I don't believe that you need to share much in common with a lesbian shut-in to resonate and empathize with it. The nature of it as a book that is not only non-fiction, but also explores the day-to-day struggles of simply being a person trying to live a normal life makes it a deeply profound and human story that can't be replicated by most others. The art style is simple and a little messy, which I think lends itself ... well just as easily to the comedic moments as it does to illustrating the despair of Kabi's struggles and the deeper rumination on many of the disparate aspects of just...living. I think almost anyone that has found it difficult to live a normal life or to find a normal that truly fits them will find a part of themselves here, especially if you are someone who is queer, neurodivergent, or struggling with mental illness.

Story – 6.5/10
The story's premise is fairly basic – Kabi Nagata is reaching the end of her 20s and is still a virgin; her, a lesbian, decides to contact an escort agency to lose her virginity with another woman. It is a very personal and autobiographical story, and rightfully so. The manga deals with the anxieties of such an ... adventure. The premise, however, is also its conclusion: it offers nothing more than this. There is a build-up until the culminating point and an overview of an after; all very simple.
There is a strong emphasis on depicting mental illnesses—mostly depression—and their symptoms, such as isolation or self-harm. The manga does a fairly good job of explaining these internal psychological mechanisms in a friendly, intuitive, and truthful fashion. This is the story’s greatest victory and the reason it gains a few points in the story’s rating.

Art – 6,5/10
The art style in “My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness” is anything but ugly, although sui generis. It is flashy (in the good sense of the word) because it uses more than the black-and-white scheme with great success (it has pink in almost all pages); it is fairly minimalistic and does not have much detail at all, since its focus is obviously the main character’s story. The character design, however, is well-done. The scenarios are also minimalistic, to say the least.

Characters – 7,5/10
The characters, in a typical short story, are hardly well developed (or at least the chances of being so are fewer), but since this is an autobiographical manga, characters do provide a sound basis of believability and empathy; although only the main character receives a proper development. This is a short one-volume long manga, and, thus, there would arguably be any space whatsoever to include a second character. This only focuses, then, on Kabi Nagata. And, on this matter, she depicted herself in a human, warm, and entertaining fashion.

Enjoyment – 6/10
Personally, the enjoyment in this manga isn’t very high, but it all depends on what you are searching for: if you want a truthful depiction of self-harm and depression, as well as living with self-harm scars, Kabi Nagata provides an engaging work of art, if you want a fully fleshed story, you won’t find it here. This manga, however, is one-of-kind: and, in all fairness, it sticks with you, which I believe means a lot in such a short story. Its depiction of depression is one of the best I’ve seen in manga, and for that I believe it deserves a recommendation. However, the story simply doesn't allow for a plain recommendation, and thus a mixed feelings stamp.

I saw this at first from anime man. Then I kept hearing about this manga until i decided to just buy it and give it a go... Gay social commentary Its a trend right now. So I go in expecting a cry-fest, i loved the pitch, i dig the concept i'm all in!!!

So I start reading it and in the first scene this 28-year old woman is in bed with a female escort, then it pauses and starts from her high school life...Why would you spoil the lesbian scene? I didn't like that.

So the book goes on, my biggest problem is that It's more of ... a picture book than a comic book.The entire book is narrated and the pictures show an exaggerating depiction of the narration. It reminded me of cartoon story-time youtubers and I couldn't get past that, I would have prefered if this was a podcast or a stand up show, I don't get why was this in a comic book form, it clearly looks like a true story so why didn't she perform this story instead ?
Also a huge knit peak for me is when i read comics-mangas I like when the story comes from the characters, this entire book is narrated.

Last thing is that I felt the narrator was kinda preachy especially in the work force related subjects. I felt this book was more about being indie than homosexual, hahaha the book wasn't gay enough hahaha.

The art is amatuerish and it is pink colored which i hugely dislike these days when some manga will choose a color and everything that would be pink is colored pink...It throws me off, just be black and white, why color it if you are going to have only a single color?

The main character i explained earlier why i disliked her, and then the lesbian payoff finally happens and is meh, for me it upgraded it from a 2 to a 3.
