Determining factors of youth unemployment in Greece with emphasis on tertiary education graduates

Abstract
Unemployment rates for young individuals are particularly high in Greece and an important fraction of the young unemployed are tertiary education graduates. The results of this study imply that the problem is the transition from education to the labour market, irrespective of the individual’s age and educational qualifications. By and large, unemployment rates for tertiary education graduates tend to diminish a few years after graduation, while they fall slower and remain higher for persons with lower educational qualifications. Ceteris paribus, women in general and female tertiary education graduates in particular face significantly higher probability of unemployment compared to men with similar characteristics.
