The Beatles to release new official book ‘The Beatles: Get Back’
The Beatles are to release their first official hardback book in twenty years after the announcement of their new book The Beatles: Get Back — which documented their infamous Get Back sessions which would eventually turn into their Let It Be album.
The book begins at the start of 1969 and captures the band shortly after the release of their chart-topping masterpiece White Album, covering sessions for their final LP as well as that rooftop performance of their last ever gig.
It features transcribed conversations drawn from the band’s 120 hours of studio recording sessions, as well as hundreds of previously unpublished images from the archives of Linda McCartney and photographer Ethan A. Russell, whose pictures eventually featured on Let It Be. The 240-page hardback will be released on August 31st, 2021.
The book also includes a foreword from director Peter Jackson, who has made a documentary about the troubled time that surrounded the album which shares the same title as the book and will be released a few days before the book on August 27th.
These sessions were known as turbulent times but in the introduction for the book Let It Be sees novelist Hanif Kureishi tries to dismiss this: “In fact, this was a productive time for them when they created some of their best work. And it is here that we have the privilege of witnessing their early drafts, the mistakes, the drift and digressions, the boredom, the excitement, joyous jamming and sudden breakthroughs that led to the work we now know and admire.”
