When it comes to automotive pedigree, you can’t go further back than Mercedes. Its predecessor companies were founded by Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler, who separately produced what could be considered the world’s first modern cars in 1885-1886. Today, Mercedes produces luxury cars, including ultra-luxury brand Maybach and performance luxury brand Mercedes-AMG, and light commercial vans as well as offering financing, leasing, rental and insurance services. Although the Stuttgart-headquartered company has 35 production sites on four continents, over half its revenue comes from the United States, Germany and China. Mercedes spun off its heavy commercial vehicle business into Daimler Truck in 2021, retaining a 30% stake.
