Chapter Chapter 4 in Long Waves of Growth, Hegemonic Power, and Climate Change in the World Economy, 2025, pp 137-171 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter analyzes the long waves of climate change that have occurred over different historical periods on planet Earth, and what the significance of these are for historical and current issues of long waves of growth, hegemony, and climate change (LWHegCC). Special reference is then given to the more recent long waves of climate change and their relevance for the Dutch, British, US, and Chinese experience. In this context, we examine current issues of cascading tipping points, uncertainty, and climate change vis-a-vis long wave growth and hegemony into the future. Throughout the chapter, we utilize some of the principles of political economy (PoPE), explicitly or implicitly, to assist with the investigation. A conclusion follows.
