EU institutions and bodies
As the EU's statistical authority, Eurostat coordinates statistical activities across the EU's institutions and bodies to ensure data conistency and quality while minimising the reporting burden.
Eurostat’s responsibilities for coordinating the development and production of statistics across the European Commission are outlined in a Commission decision, which mandates Eurostat to ensure effective cooperation and maintain regular, constructive dialogue with other Commission services.
Eurostat also maintains an inventory of statistics produced by Commission services.
Statistical dialogue with the European Parliament
In the framework of the annual statistical dialogue, Eurostat’s Director-General appears before the relevant committee of the European Parliament.
They discuss matters pertaining to statistical governance, methodological developments, statistical innovation, and the overall role of European statistics in supporting evidence-based policymaking across the EU.
European System of Central Banks
The ESS and European System of Central Banks coordinate on shared priorities, at both the strategic and operational levels, as per an established memorandum of understanding.
Eurostat also has a memorandum of understanding with the European Central Bank’s Directorate General Statistics on quality assurance for macroeconomic imbalance procedure statistics.
Coordination with Commission services
Eurostat establishes memoranda of understanding with Commission Directorates-General (DGs) to align statistical priorities, clarify roles, and ensure the consistency of statistical activities.
Reviewed annually, these memoranda support coordination, transparency, and may include arrangements for pre-release access.
