UK-based Australian musician Joel Sarakula's new album Soft Focus blends his many influences across soft-rock, funk, AOR, soulful disco and indie pop, all wrapped in a gentle, laid-back aesthetic. The album's name refers to a photographic technique that creates a warm, flattering blur-an apt metaphor for Sarakula's hazy and nostalgic soundscapes. Soft Focus includes two tracks produced by Shawn Lee: the disco-infused 'I'll Get By Without You' and the relaxed, '80s-inspired 'Telephone Calls.' Other standout tracks are the Latin rock of 'King of Spain,' the soulful 'Back For Your Love' and the psychedelic 'Bird of Paradise.'
