  Seven Chilean fishermen arrested in clash with carabineros

  

  Seven people were arrested, and several law enforcement officers were injured Wednesday as artisanal fishermen in the Chilean region of Maule clashed with carabineros during a protest on Route 5 South near San Javier. The demonstrators blocked the highway to protest against the so-called Fracking Law bill, which was to be voted on in the Senate. All eight injured officers were reported to be out of immediate danger.

  Following a multi-agency operation extending over several days in the Falkland Islands, the Korean flagged jigger 107 Eun Hae was re-floated just before 09:00 Thursday morning, with no injuries and no apparent pollution.

  Korean flagged jigger 107 Eun Hae remains grounded in the Falkland Islands, more precisely at Settlement Cove, Saunders Island. The vessel has a crew of 38 onboard and no injuries have been sustained or reported.

  Falklands, grounded jigger in Stanley Harbor refloated

  

  The Taiwanese jigger An Fong 168 grounded in shallow waters of Falkland Islands’ Stanley harbor, and with recovery delayed because of strong winds, was finally re-floated Thursday midday, 6 February, reported the Falklands Maritime Authority.

  Giant iceberg approaching South Georgia stirs fears

  

  A23a, arguably the world’s largest and oldest iceberg which has been wandering through the South Atlantic and headed for the British Overseas Territory of the South Georgia Islands since last month, has been reported not to have changed course this week nor upped nor melted, thus posing a serious threat to the local fauna. Earlier this week, it was spotted 173 miles (280km) away.
