South Georgia, new electronic permit system (EPS) for visitors next season

The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has announced that it will launch a new electronic permit system (EPS) for visitors to the Territories in advance of the next tourist season, replacing the current system of levying landing fees by an individual visitor permit charge. The cost of a visitor permit will be set initially at £200.

Fuegian town of Tolhuin wants British-funded radar dismantled

The City Hall of Tolhuin in the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego -which technically includes the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands and the other British Overseas Territories claimed by the South American country- filed a tax execution lawsuit to dismantle a radar installed by the British company LeoLabs in the area, citing violations of local regulations and national sovereignty.

The Falkland Islands Government has announced that the public consultation period on the proposed changes to the policy that guides the issuing of VSAT licenses and the associated fee level has been extended by a month.

Falklands Government have given update on avian influenza

Falklands Government Veterinary Services have given an update on avian influenza. Since Monday 1 July 2024, 105 suspect birds/animals have been reported, 84 sets of swabs have been taken (some are repeat sets from known suspect or confirmed areas).

RAF farewell to Puma HC2s choppers, which saw combat on both sides in the Falklands war

After 54 years of continuous service, Britain’s Royal Air Force’s (RAF’s) Puma fleet retired on March 31, 2025, concluding a remarkable career that began in 1971. The farewell flights on March 26 and 27 saw Puma HC2s soar over the United Kingdom and Cyprus, with additional fly-pasts in Brunei, marking the end of an era for this versatile helicopter.

CFL acquire Falkland’s container vessel MV Unispirit

The Board of Consolidated Fisheries Ltd (CFL) are delighted to announce the acquisition of MV Unispirit. The vessel was handed over to new ownership in Montevideo on Monday 7th April, 2025. This marks a significant moment for the Islands; for the first time the Falklands has its own container vessel, and the acquisition represents a major investment of Falklands capital.

Falklands, Fees to Change for Applications for British Passports, 7% increase

The Customs and Immigration Service would like to inform the public that from Thursday 10 April 2025, His Majesty’s Passport Office will be increasing their fees by approximately 7%. This means there will be the following price increases in respect of passport applications received by the Customs and Immigration Service with effect from Wednesday 09 April 2025:

Falklands holds largest volleyball tournament in Islands history; in three weeks Chile tour

The Tumbledown Hall at Mount Pleasant Complex was buzzing with energy on Saturday as it hosted the largest volleyball tournament in the history of the Falkland Islands. A total of 14 teams gathered for the highly anticipated “MPC Inter-department Volleyball Tournament,” which followed a knockout format and showcased some exceptional volleyball talent.
