Mercosur FMs agree to expand exceptions to CETs

Southern Common Market (Mercosur) foreign ministers meeting in Buenos Aires on Friday agreed to temporarily expand the National List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff by up to 50 codes per member state in response to global trade tensions, following US President Donald Trump's barrage of import surcharges.

Lula enacts Reciprocity Law in reaction to Trump's tariffs

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva enacted the so-called Reciprocity Law on Friday, whereby the federal government can react whenever countries or economic blocs create measures restricting Brazilian exports, be it in the form of surcharges or objections to the origin of the product. The measure is to be published in Monday's issue of the Diário Oficial da União (Federal Official Gazette).

Bolsonaro hospitalized with severe abdomen pain

Brazil's Communications Minister resigns, successor chosen

Argentine prosecutor wants Iran's supreme leader arrested

Argentine Prosecutor Sebastián Basso has filed a request before Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas for an international arrest warrant against Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for his alleged involvement in ordering the 1994 bombing of the Argentine Israeli Mutual Association (AMIA) headquarters in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people and injured over 300.

Fuegian town of Tolhuin wants British-funded radar dismantled

The City Hall of Tolhuin in the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego -which technically includes the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands and the other British Overseas Territories claimed by the South American country- filed a tax execution lawsuit to dismantle a radar installed by the British company LeoLabs in the area, citing violations of local regulations and national sovereignty.

Fate of most foreigners unknown among 221 Dominican nightclub tragedy dead

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that at least one US national and several US legal permanent residents died in this week's Jet Set nightclub roof collapse in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The tragedy, which occurred during a concert by merengue performer Rubby Pérez, claimed at least 184 lives, including prominent figures like former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, as well as Monte Cristi Governor Nelsy Cruz.

Argentina: CGT leader says Thursday's strike “a success”

Argentina's General Labor Confederation (CGT) leaders said Thursday's nationwide strike was a “resounding success.” It was the third such measure against President Javier Milei. CGT Joint Secretary-General Héctor Daer underscored how the Libertarian administration's “chainsaw” policies were causing a drop in people's income. US official admits no more meat to be bought from Argentina

US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins confirmed that her country would not be purchasing any more meat from Argentina in a protectionist move to preserve local production. “No more meat from Argentina,” she said during a Fox News interview.
