To facilitate discussions on shared challenges and coordinate various chess activities, FIDE has established 18 Commissions (15 non-elected and 3 elected) along with 2 Committees. These bodies are empowered to initiate new projects related to their specific areas of expertise, as well as to develop suggestions and proposals for the FIDE Management Board, FIDE Council and FIDE General Assembly. All non-elected Commissions have defined responsibilities, including setting their mission, vision, objectives, and strategies in alignment with FIDE's goals. They also consult with Federations, other Commissions, and other FIDE entities on proposed regulation changes. Additionally, they collaborate on matters of shared interest by involving experts from other Commissions to create inter-Commission working groups.
