Following recent acclaim-gatherer Damaged, this extension of the LP further serves to distend the dub, surveying and excavating fossil-rich terrains of soiled bass and coarse texture. Six reconstructed dub reformations, only two tracks, ';Chemical Version' and 'Wired Version', were previously available digitally; both introduce the record as warped yet unassuming undercuts, ripe for the meditating-to. 'Thin Dub' dissolves the mood into an echo-drenched texture; the track is marked by an up-down, contradistinct set of tuned impacts. 'Dub Craft', meanwhile, snatches the crown for most subby tune of the year.

Review: Since at least 2024, by our estimation, shells have been enjoying something of an "it moment" in electronic music. Don't ask us why. Perhaps the icky palps of nautiluses, or the helical segmentation of various fossils, would seem to predict the naturalisation of mechanical reproductions expressed in techno. Birmingham keystone Surgeon (Anthony Child) swoops in on the fervour, repurposing larked sonic opercula into filter-fed 4x4 Borg-anisms. But despite the implied theme, Child uses limited equipment - "For me, it's an interesting experience returning to old techniques again after 30 years" - and refashions a classic live-show-style approach here. All eight tracks were done in a single take, and only 'Dying' upends beats, delivering a moribund, mantric sound piece.

After something of a hiatus, it is now back on When The Morning Comes with more of the sort of tuneage that is going to quickly sell out and soon become the ID request du jour at your favourite underground parties. These are of course sophisticated sounds from the silky house bumps of 'Now & Then' with its seductive vocal allure to the throwback 90s sounds of 'Over Time' (Acid Mix). Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Giegling main man Edward brings a little more low-end heft to his remix, then 'Zero' gets more wobbly and busy with hiccuping sounds, swaggering drum rhythms and icy hi-hats all sure to sound huge at DC10 this summer. Cabanne remixes with a deft touch that keeps the silky minimal flowing going but with more edge.

Review: Per Hammar and Berlin-based label Sushitech are a match made in heaven as both have long since proven their credential in the world of dub techno. As the label turns 20, it kicks off its year with an album that has been two years in the making and features a top-quality array of dub techno sounds. Malin Genie features on two of the more kicking and propulsive cuts, while Jannik Jivung adds an organic touch to two more. In between those sounds are percolating slow-mo jams like 'Representant Dubb' and more kinetic sounds like 'TX Files' with its fresh kicks and rolling bass.

Review: First released in 1999, Swayzak's 'Floyd/Doobie' shook the British duo's catalogue. Though it wasn't 'Bueno' or 'Fukumachi', this deep house cut was the next best choice for followers of the then burgeoning tech house circuit. Swayzak were already favourites on this and the deep house scene, and had clawed in acclaim for their involvement in both as early as 1993. One particularly prolix bio deems them the incipients of "1st wave 2000-era progressive deep minimal", which is too analytic even for us manic categorisers. No, we prefer to take these two big-hitters as they are: brimming with enthusiasm for a gadget-packed future, 'Floyd' fizzes and twitches with the pulsing blurts of a saw synth, as if to suggest constant magnetic stimulation from above. 'Doobie', meanwhile, hears our protagonist disrobe the techno utility belt, returning to a wireless home, so to gaze out over a subtly detuned chord landscape set to munching percs.

Review: Fletcher heads up the Social Currency label but you may also know him from his superb work with Mosaic boss Steve O'Sullivan. It's no wonder then that he calls up his dub techno buddy for the second outing here. They kick off with 'Flutter' which is a minimal dub masterpiece with light and airy synths, yep, fluttering up top above rooted, rolling drums. Fletcher then goes it alone for 'From A Different Place' which is a little more anxious in its loops but still has gorgeous melodies streaming through the mix. 'This Day Has Been Too' is another fine solo cut that explores insular and inward moods with great deftness.

It again works well on cultured dance floors but is also a deeply spiritual album that will have your mind wandering to some lovely places. From the opening moments of 'Dokimion' you're sunk into widescreen soundscapes that pair painterly synths with immersive low ends. Review: Given that he's been active as a producer since the dawn of the 90s, it would be fair to say that Sven Vath is well worthy of an authoritative, expansive retrospective. That's certainly what we get here on this quadruple-vinyl mix of classic productions and fresh, eye-catching remixes. It's the latter that dominate the early stages of the collection - see Adam Port's hypnotic, didgeridoo-sporting revision of 'Ritual of Life', Speedy J's acid-fired stomp through 'Ballet-Fusion' - before Vath showcases some of his choice cuts. Review: Eddie Richards' vaults are surely some of the best there can be for tech house heads. The Brit was there on the ground, helping to shape the earliest incarnations of the newly emerging genre back in the 90s and early 00s and few have bettered it since. Proof comes from this reissue of a pair of remastered beauties on new label likethis. 'Destiny' has never before been on wax and is a silky, synth-laced sound with crisp drum funk and then the B-side jam 'The Soul' is a dusty and stripped-back mix of drums, hits, swirling pads and irresistibly loopy grooves.

Review: MCMLXV might be on your radar for its quality output in the realms of dub techno. This time out though it veers more towards club tackle and is less heavy on the dub via the work of label head JS Zeiter. 'Outline' stars in a deep, pensive groove with glistening hi-hats cutting up the smooth bass. 'Taken' is another mid-tempo plodder that comes alive with nice heady synth curlicues that add some scale. 'Navigate' keeps these serene vibes flowing with more deft and wispy pads colouring the rooted beats and 'Resistance' shuts down with more swaggering bass.

Can we hear the wood for the trees? 'New Horizons' and 'Invisible Star' would certainly seem to suggest not. We're always in the thick of it, even as intergalactic wow-signal comms traverse repetitive aeons, light-year, and as we travel further and further 'Outside The Time Zone', further and 'Further Away'. A cool, armrest-clenching continuation from the Spanish fave.

Review: Urgent electro from adept producer and DJ Munir Nadir. His third outing for a new favourite label, the Italian outfit Odd One Tape, this sawtooth croaker is an especially squelchy dance record, drawing on tail ends of minimal techno and noughts electro house, and with perhaps a tad of skweee thrown in too. 'Give Me A Second' and 'Paratoxical' use conspicuous reverb tails and flex-gurgled vocals to spoken and spelt-out effect, while the B-side's 'Sniper' is as wilfully minimal and baleful as it gets, working in a monster of a ghostly vocal underbeat. Finally, 'Flying Ladder' rounds off on a matchingly minimal euphorizer in the 4x4 vein.

Review: Ludvig Cimbrelius, a multi-alias artist donning other guises Alveol, Eternell, and Rust, reserves the Purl name for his more ambient, dubby techno creations. After a goosebump-inducing debut on the British Columbia-based Silent Season label in 2010 with Deep Ground, Stillpoint marked his first release with them in five years, following a series of records on Dewtone and Post Global. Now again reissued on vinyl ten years later, Stillpoint inflects balmy dub soundscapes and dewey techno sweats, evoking tearful rain shadows and humid canopies. Like a hidden biome where ethereal animals graze and gambol, the ambient sound-world evoked through 'Inre Sken' and 'Melora' is truly something else. Review: One of the most dynamic producers in techno brings a fusion of dub techno, atmospheric sound design and poetic experimentation. Now based in Lisbon, the Hanover-born producer crafts a deeply introspective journey that balances weighty rhythms with hypnotic textures. Opening with 'Crystal Cell Energy'. Vril sets a cavernous moodidubby, atmospheric and steadily unfolding, with a slow-burning intro that gives way to a powerful, heavy beat. 'Bruch Im Nullpunkt' follows, a quintessential dub techno cut with deep, resonant chords and a unique rhythmic structure. The first half of the record closes with 'Secondary Devices', where Edward George's spoken-word delivery floats over swelling, sci-fi-infused ambience, creating a thought-provoking and cinematic experience. Side-B plunges deeper with 'Tasche Voller Regen', an otherworldly soundscape draped in deep textures. The mood shifts with the Steve Rachmad's Parallel 9 remix of 'Bruch Im Nullpunkt', injecting a sense of momentum with his signature melodic dub chords and precise, pulsating techno framework. Closing the record, 'Shifting' introduces another poetic collaboration, this time with Riddim Writer, layering evocative spoken-word over an ethereal, ambient arrangement. Vril demonstrates exceptional range, seamlessly bridging techno's club functionality with conceptual depth. This is a record that not only moves bodies but also stimulates the mind, another example to Vril's refined artistry.

Review: French techno innovator Laurent Garnier, Berlin's shape-shifting DJ Gigola and German house mainstay Gerd Janson each put their own spin on 'Miss Suave', a cult favourite from Swiss producer Deetron from the early 2000s. Garnier twists it into a deep, acid-tinged Detroit workout, layering hypnotic synth cycles over rolling percussion. DJ Gigola dials up the tension with a stripped-back rave approach, sharpening the groove into something raw and propulsive. Janson, known for his disco-inflected touch, injects a dose of swing and warmth, transforming the track into a fluid, floor-ready mover. Review: Serious seriality from the OHM Series, an imprint and sole patent owner of the rare, aurally administered chemical known as Omega X. The alphabetic Greek letter ohm determines impedance / resistance in an electrical circuit, and so too do each of the dub techno tracks released on the OHM Series amount to tergiversating transductions, their chillout chord-knocks and hardened beats never quite letting us settle. Though titles like 'Innocence' and 'Downtime' persist here, the tracks perhaps inadvertently prove that flow is impossible without resistance: Separation's track is especially unorthodox in its strange reordering of phaser, pan and saturation effects on the pad-stab, which produces an unusual swirling effect.
