Review: Originally released in 1979, this is a highly sought-after gem due a reissue to bring its soulful, classic charms back into the spotlight, complete with the original B-side. The opening track, 'Hollywood Dreaming', is a smooth, catchy piece that expertly blends a funky rhythm with a rich horn section and excellent vocals. The infectious melody and creative arrangement make it a standout in the band's catalog. It's a track that embodies the essence of late '70s soul and funk while still feeling fresh and timeless. Review: Dusty-fingered reissue imprint South Street Soul continues to dig deep for inspiration, looking beyond the obvious for classic cuts that don't get the recognition they perhaps deserve. Both tracks here were taken from Maxi Anderson's sole solo album, a sweet and at times sugary collection of disco-era soul slow jams originally released by jazz stable Blue Note way back in 1977. 'Lover To Lover', which sits here on the A-side, is the pick of the pair: a lusciously orchestrated, tactile and loved-up slab of slow-motion disco-soul topped off by Anderson's genuinely brilliant and emotionally expressive lead vocal. 'Walk Softly', meanwhile, is even slower and more immersive - a heart-aching slab of orchestrated soul that's as tear-jerking as it is musically expansive.

Review: For the first time since their 1981 release, Alicia Myers' iconic tracks 'I Want To Thank You' and 'Don't Stop What You're Doin'' are together on one vinyl, making this a double-header that's hard to resist. Both songs, produced by Kevin 'Mr Groove' McCord, highlight the peak of his career, during which he also played a key role in Al Hudson & The Soul Partners and One Way. McCord's influence spans r&b, funk, disco and boogie, with these tracks standing as prime examples of his craft. I Want To Thank You has become a timeless classic, a staple at block parties, particularly in Brooklyn, where it's known to kick off the festivities with its unforgettable groove and Alicia's smooth, heartfelt vocals. Meanwhile, Don't Stop What You're Doin' carries its own legacy, having been famously sampled by J Dilla for Slum Village's 'What It's All About' featuring Busta Rhymes. This release from the South Street family is fully licensed, remastered and essential for any collection, encapsulating a pivotal moment in music history. Both tracks are a reminder of the joy and energy that defined the era.

Review: Founded by Roy Ayers in Cincinnati in 1976 as a vehicle for his songs and productions - though, interestingly, he was never a member of the band RAMP recorded and released one album, 1977's sun-soaked jazz-funk opus, Come Into Knowledge. This fantastic 45 from South Street Records' new South Street Soul offshoot showcases two of the set's most admired and in-demand cuts. Edwin Birdsong and William Allen share production credits with Ayers on 'Daylight', a shuffling, dewy-eyed, afternoon-ready delight whose slow groove, meandering synth solos and blissful female vocals recall another Ayers' classic 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine'. Fittingly, RAMP's fine, soft-focus take on that tune can be found on side B.
