Review: Naff Recordings help further the tactile ambient movement in the urban corner of QC, Canada, this time presenting a singular ambient hardcore record from Melbourne duo OK EG (Lauren Squire, Matthew Wilson) and fellow producer Priori. These four 'Serpentine' variations hear four sonic squamata slither round a steady lattice of deeper beats, the emphasis fixed on a mood of sage solemnity. The record bills itself as "dub techno" but, in our estimation, would fit better for use as a choice set of downtimes, serving well as Wim Hof breathers in otherwise fast, clobberer DJ sets. No wonder the duo refer to themselves tunes as progenitors "feather-tech", a genre term we will almost certainly be stowing away in our minds for reuse in the future.

You probably already know that if you're reading this, and the latest on his Semantica label finds some top talents all adding their own remix spin on his originals. Stanslav Tolkachev goes first with the booming, loopy kicks of 'AW08' and searching synth blips. Felix K flips 'Utero' into a rumbling bit of lurching deep techno that echoes through empty industrial spaces and after the original comes a CONCEPTUAL remix of 'Seda Muerta' that sounds like a train on a track pushing on through a stiff wind. 'By Means Of Music' is a more funky vibe with New Beat undertones and real warmth. 'Got Momentum' brings a French house edge and on the flip, Cromby transforms' Got Momentum' into a euphoric UK peak-time anthem, and Cycle_2 reimagine 'By Means Of Music' as a psychedelic techno trip.

Review: Unknown artistic exigencies from Planet Rhythm, on a new techno EP sunny-side-down flip of Groove Armada's 'Superstylin''. On the word-playing 'Super Groovin'', MC M.A.D.'s unmistakable vocals are lent an extra filling-out, as tranches of dub-technical motifs outpour from the centre mix. 'Just Won't Do It' eases up on the productive accoutrements, reducing the mix to a sustenant piping of 4x4 kick and organic pulsation, though the track makes ironic reuse of the acapella from Tim Liken's 'It Just Won't Do' in the breakdown.

Jobe Elliott-King, Charley Tucker & Oliver Rayner offer up yet another holy trinitarian prayer here - in what makes up the first release on their own self-titled imprint - hand-picking the best motifs of ragga, progressive, ambient and Detroit house for one rather cool, downtown-bound four-hand. Ten sousing sonorities hear him reshape his signature dub techno sound with growth-mental finesse, emitting foggy atmospheres and slicing percs. 'Inertia' leans into soft chords and faint crackle before giving way to the stripped-down shuffle and understated melodic turns of 'Gravity', while 'Orbit' builds over and delay-heavy phrasing; 'Float' offers a breather with its ambient drift, while an embossed 'Mass' sears the ears with churlish mood-texture. Stephan Bodzin's take is lush and emotionally charged, tapping into his signature, grandiose style with sweeping synths and an infectious groove. Erol Alkan flips the track into a psychedelic whirlwind, breaking down barriers with glitchy, unpredictable beats, while SNYL brings a more hypnotic vibe, leaning into deep bass and subtle, entrancing textures. Yulia Niko strips it back to a deeper, atmospheric sound, crafting a slow-burning tension that grabs you from start to finish. Review: Oscar Escapa continues to carve out his space in the techno scene with his latest offering, a pair of tracks that are as compelling as they are inexorable. Hailing from Barcelona, Escapa has made a name for himself with productions that blend hard-hitting rhythms with atmospheric intricacy. On 'Enemy Returns', he delivers an unremitting onslaught of hyperactive techno, driven by a pounding kick drum, a gnarly bass riff and dissonant industrial stabs that dart in and out with menacing precision. The track's chaotic energy is held together by subtle shifts in texture, creating an almost hypnotic effect despite its aggression. Flip-side, Escapa teams up once again with Joanna Dark for 'It's My Life', a track that balances industrial intensity with an odd sense of melody. Dark's robotic vocal, repeating the track's title like a mantra, contrasts sharply with the swirling percussive layers and fuzzy bass arp. The track's unsettling atmosphere is heightened by unexpected guitar notes, which provide a brief respite from the techno madness.
