Review: First released in 2005 and now celebrating 20 years, this stunning record remains a towering achievement in progressive rock. Tatsuya Yoshida of Ruins fame leads the band through a kaleidoscopic explosion of operatic vocals, dizzying tempo changes and virtuosic musicianship that pushes boundaries with relentless precision and creativity. Fusing influences from Magma's choral intensity to the angular melodies of Canterbury prog legends like Hatfield and the North, Angherr Shisspa showcases Yoshida's unique vision. Tracks like 'Rattims Friezz' and the title piece alternate between intricate, razor-sharp riffs, chaotic improvisations and moments of delicate beauty. The addition of reedist Komori Keiko enriches the soundscape with emotive saxophone passages, particularly in the serene breakdowns that punctuate the album's otherwise frenetic energy. Bassist Kengo Sakamoto's 'Mibingvahre' begins with chant-like rhythms before spiraling into controlled chaos, highlighting the band's ability to balance complexity with visceral impact. Anchored by Yoshida's otherworldly drumming and underpinned by glittering keyboard lines, the album achieves a breathtaking level of technical prowess matched by an equally sizeable emotional depth.
