Mike Collier is a former a Republican candidate for the Southern District of the Mississippi Public Service Commission in the 2015 elections.[1] He was defeated in the primary.[2]

Collier ran for the same public service commissioner post both in 2011 and 2007, but on the Democratic ticket. In each case, he lost to Republican incumbent Leonard Bentz in the general election on November 8, 2011.[3]

Eleven state executive offices in Mississippi were up for election in 2015. The general election was held on November 3, 2015, following a primary election on August 4, 2015. Runoffs were scheduled for August 25 in case no candidate received a majority (50 percent plus one) of the popular vote in a given primary race.

Collier was defeated in the Republican primary, while Britton and Smith proceeded to a runoff election on August 25, 2015.[2] Britton was triumphant over Smith in the runoff election, defeating him by more than 10 points. Britton faced Tom Blanton (D) and Lonny Kenneth Spence (I) in the general election on November 3, 2015.[4]

2011

Collier made his second bid for the Southern District of the Mississippi Public Service Commission in 2011, running on the Democratic ticket. Collier faced Thomas Blanton and James Buckhaults on August 2. As no candidate received at least 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters, Blanton and Collier, met in a runoff on August 23. By about 200 votes, Collier narrowly defeated Blanton to secure the Democratic nomination. In a replay of the 2007 race, Collier lost to incumbent Republican Leonard Bentz in the general election on November 8, 2011.[3]

2007

Collier ran unsuccessfully for the Southern District of the Mississippi Public Service Commission in 2007. He won the Democratic primary and fell to Republican Leonard Bentz in the November general election.[3]
