Issues

On his campaign website, Yancey listed four main issues:[2]

  • $20 Billion of Your Tax Money
Excerpt: "The State Treasurer is responsible for managing over $20 billion of your tax money. That's why the choice you make in the August 2nd Republican Primary election is an important one..."
  • Lower Taxes
Excerpt: "Mississippi citizens do not need higher taxes. Lee Yancey is the only candidate running for State Treasurer, who has an actual voting record for everyone to see. In his four years in the State Senate, Yancey never voted for a tax increase."
  • Reduce Government Debt
Excerpt: "As your Treasurer, Yancey will bring fiscal discipline to the Bond Commission and emphasize paying off existing debt faster, because you never know what might happen with the economy."
  • Protecting Mississippi from Obama
Excerpt: "As your State Treasurer, Yancey will add his voice to the voices of other conservative leaders across the country, in calling for Washington D.C. to back off. Yancey believes in the U.S. Constitution and supports the 10th Amendment, which grants the states primary authority over how we govern our lives."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Mississippi

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
