Jerry Costello is the Illinois Director of Agriculture. Costello assumed office on March 2, 2020. Costello's current term ends on January 11, 2027.
Costello (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives to represent District 116. Costello won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
He was appointed by Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) on February 28, 2020, and took office on March 2, 2020.[1] Pritzker reappointed Costello on January 23, 2023.[2]
Costello is a former member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing District 116 from 2012 to 2019. He resigned in May 2019 to direct law enforcement at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.[3]
Biography
Costello graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. His professional experience includes working as a police officer and Senior Vice President of Huntleigh Securities Cop. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army.[4]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was December 2, 2013. Incumbent Jerry Costello Jr. ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[10][11][12]

Costello won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 116. Costello was unopposed in the March 20 Democratic primary and defeated Julie Bigham Eggers (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[13][14][15]
