John Acosta
John Acosta is a federal magistrate judge on the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. He was first appointed to this position on March 5, 2008, and his current term expired on March 4, 2024.[1]
Education
Acosta received his B.A. degree in history from San Diego State University in 1979 and his J.D. degree from the University of Oregon in 1982.[1]
Career
Acosta began his career in 1982 as an associate with the law firm Hughes, Thorsness, Gantz, Powell & Brundin. He became a partner of this firm in 1987. Later that year, he joined the firm Stoel Rives LLP, where he became a partner in 1994. In 2002, he became the Senior Deputy General Counsel for the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon. He worked in this capacity until he was appointed as a federal magistrate judge in 2008.[1]
