Expand all | Collapse all

I am in my third term as a Michigan State Representative. I owned a small business for several decades and I have served on the Monroe County Community College Board. I am a father of three and a grandfather of six.
  • Experience. I have been a house representative for 6 years now and I have learned to apply an empathetic but shrewd approach to legislation that ensures the responsible decision is made but that nobody gets left out in the cold.
  • Parental control in education. I will fight to ensure more parental rights in schools, and more options for school of choice, ensuring our children receive the best opportunities.
  • Economic development. I have proudly been involved with legislation that has created numerous jobs and brought vast arrays of business to the state and I will continue to do so.
Education - I seek to affirm greater parental control, and more options for Michigan's students.

Agriculture - Having served on the agriculture committee, I seek to improve economic circumstances for Michigan farmers, and protect them from predatory practices.

Rehabilitation and Corrections - As a young man I struggled with addiction and alcoholism, and it is my life's mission to give others the same second chance that I received. I will fight for increased recovery opportunity for those that face rock bottom, allowing them to lead a good life and make their contribution to society.

Economic Development and Tax Relief - Michiganders face a serious economic crisis, and I want to ensure they are not overburdened by taxes and economic forces created by irresponsible fiscal policies.

2020

2016

Bellino's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[5]

Education

  • Excerpt: "Ballooning education costs, loss of great teachers, and unequal allocation of available funds are all preventing our children from receiving the best possible education. We need to do better. If elected, I vow to restore the proper funding to schools, to guarantee that funding is used responsibly, and ensure that teachers are able to do their jobs."

Part time legislature

  • Excerpt: "Until 1963 Michigan had a part time legislature, and 40 states still do. Lawmakers currently draw a $71,000 salary with $10,000 in expenses, but were only in session for 84 days this year.

This isolates representatives from the people they are supposed to represent, while costing hardworking taxpayers millions of dollars. When the legislature is in constant contact with special interest groups and lobbyists, it cannot claim to truly serve the people.

I will champion a part time legislature to reconnect politicians to real people."

Economy

  • Excerpt: "By promoting local businesses and ensuring the government does not place too much burden on job creators we can encourage lasting economic growth.

As a long time small business owner, I am prepared to stand with business to protect jobs in Michigan. I believe that is the only path to a healthy economy and a better future."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Michigan

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
