Ellsworth Van Graafeiland
Ellsworth Alfred Van Graafeiland (1915-2004) was a federal judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He joined the Second Circuit in 1974 after an appointment from Gerald Ford. At the time of appointment, he was a private practice attorney in New York. He assumed senior status on May 5, 1985, and served in that capacity until his death on November 20, 2004.[1]

Second Circuit
Van Graafeiland was nominated by President Gerald Ford on December 11, 1974, to a seat vacated by Henry Friendly; he was confirmed by the Senate on December 20, 1974, and received commission the next day. He assumed senior status on May 5, 1985, and served in that capacity until his death on November 20, 2004. He was succeeded to this post by Frank Altimari.[1]
