Campaign themes

2016

Valentine's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Economics: We need to raise the minimum wage to a livable wage of $15.00. The growing cost of living in Colorado has outmatched what citizens are making per hour here in Colorado. Families are still struggling eight years after the 2008 financial crisis. Coloradoans are working several part-time jobs to make a whole paycheck and to make ends meet. Many times individuals who are skilled, trained, certified, and experienced are unemployable because they lack current employment, the necessary job skills, and/or experience to become employable. By integrating these categories in the active workforce as a requirement for those doing business with the state or receiving state funds directly or indirectly will not only increase productivity and manpower, but will enable individuals who lack current employment status, skills, and experience to gain the adequate knowledge to enhance their job opportunities. Individuals will also be able to attain the necessary skill set and be able to compete with others in the same job field or industry.
  • Healthcare: The current health care system has provided coverage to many that originally did not have coverage and can obtain their basic medical needs. However, the current Health Care Market Place not meet the needs of every person in Colorado. Yes, I fully support Colorado Care Initiative 20, which will be on the Colorado Ballot in November 2016. Colorado Care Initiative 20 will provide a single-payer health care system for 100% of Colorado citizens.
  • Environment: I am against fracking. I am for the use of renewable energy resources that does not cause harmful gasses, protects wildlife, reduces carbon emissions, and does not kill off Mother Earth. I am for keeping Colorado citizens safe from the unknown chemical, environmental, and economic dangers of fracking. The people in HD7 and the State of Colorado should have the choice of whether to allow fracking in their communities or on their land. They should feel safe and secure in their homes. They should live without the constant exposure to hazardous chemicals at their doorstep. No one should be in competition for water resources with major corporations especially when there are limited natural resources. Current technology exists to provide Coloradans the opportunity, choice, and affordability to Clean Energy for all.
  • Education: Every community should have then right to decide on the types of educational institutions located in their communities. A one-type fits all business model does not work for every child and can not be applied to every child. The education achievement gap is widening, and there is a need to reform the school reform. A single community should not be over saturated with continuous failing reform programs with track records of constant failures. These failing reform models should not be duplicated and expanded. If you have successful programs with successful models, then those programs and models should be duplicated and expanded.[1]

Campaign themes

2014

Valentine's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

Unemployment/Underemployment

  • Excerpt: "I want to create sustainable jobs for all citizens in Colorado, not just the select few. I want to increase the current active workforce to include not only paid full and part-time jobs, but also apprenticeships and internships."

Home Foreclosure

  • Excerpt: "I am a strong advocate against the predatory lending practices and the lack of due process rights for homeowners practiced by the major banking institutions and the courts."

Homelessness

  • Excerpt: "I am against any governmental agency making any aspect of homelessness illegal in Colorado. It is a great tragedy that many Americans are living on the street due to mental illness, home foreclosure, and poverty. It is a further travesty that cities would give more rights to the beloved family’s four legged friend than to a human being."

Health Care

  • Excerpt: "Citizens of HD7 and Colorado deserve and need Single Payer Health Care. They deserve healthcare that is accessible. Healthcare should be truly affordable and accessible."

Fracking

  • Excerpt: "I’m for keeping Colorado citizens safe from the unknown chemical, environmental, and economical dangers of fracking. People in HD7 and in the State of Colorado should have the choice of whether to allow local control fracking in their communities or on their land."
