This measure sought to eliminate the county auditor position and appoint another member of the staff to do the auditor's previous duties.[2] The County auditor from DuPage had formed a group opposed to this measure, Vote No Champaign County Auditor Referendum Committee, with money to be spent on the campaign against the approval of this question. The head of the committee noted that an elected auditor has more stature behind their auditing where as an appointed official would not have that. An elected officials has to answer to the people, if an appointed auditor is not doing their job the people have no option to vote them out of office. Being elected is a more accountable position for the auditor.[3]

| Shall the elected Office of the Champaign County Auditor be eliminated, effective December 1, 2012, and the duties of said office transferred to an appointed officer?[4] |
