Four seats on the Cache County School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. Precincts 2, 4, 5 and 7 were up for re-election.

In the Precincts 2, 4 and 5 races, the incumbents each faced a challenger. In the Precinct 2 race, incumbent Bart Baird lost against Roger Pulsipher. In the Precinct 4 race, incumbent Jonathan Jenkins was defeated by Randall Bagley. In the Precinct 5 race, incumbent Allen Grunig defeated challenger Danny Brownell. Precinct 7 incumbent Teri Rhodes won unopposed.

Cache County School District is located in Cache County, Utah. The county seat is Logan. Cache County was home to 118,343 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2012-2013 school year, Cache County School District was the 10th-largest school district in Utah and served 16,116 students.[2]

Demographics

Cache County overperformed in comparison to the rest of Utah in terms of higher education achievement and median household income in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 36.9 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 30.3 percent for Utah as a whole. The median household income in the county was $49,506 compared to $58,821 for the state of Utah. The poverty rate in Cache County was 16.6 percent compared to 12.7 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Cache County Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms by specific geographic zone. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Four seats were up for election in 2014.[4]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on March 14, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 20, 2014.[5]
