Crit Luallen (b. July 21, 1952, in Frankfort, Kentucky) was the Democratic lieutenant governor of Kentucky. She was first appointed to the office in November 2014 to replace Jerry Abramson (D), who resigned to join the Obama administration.[1]

Governor Steve Beshear's (D) second term expired on December 8, 2015, and he was barred by term limits from seeking re-election to a third consecutive term. Therefore, Luallen also stepped down on December 8.[2]

Luallen was the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts from January 2004 to January 2012.

Education

Luallen graduated from Centre College in 1974.[3]

Luallen served as lieutenant governor of Kentucky from November 2014 to December 2015. She replaced Jerry Abramson (D) prior to the end of his first term in office.[1]

Luallen did not run for re-election as state auditor in 2011.

2007

Luallen won re-election as state auditor in the November 2007 election, defeating Republican candidate Linda Greenwell.[4]

Awards

In 2009, Governing magazine named Luallen as one of eight "Public Officials of the Year" for her anti-corruption efforts.[5] Other honorees included Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed and Minnesota Representative Phyllis Kahn. Each year since 1994, Governing has selected a handful of state and local officials to honor for standout job performance. The Public Officials of the Year program "recognizes leaders from state, city and county government who exemplify the ideals of public service."[6]

Luallen is a native of Frankfort, Ky., and her spouse is Lynn Luallen. She has served on the Board of Trustees of Centre College, her alma mater.[3]
