Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Grimsley's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Energy Policy: Green policy should be to adopt a new measure called Gross Energized Production (GEP), which measures the amount of energy consumed per dollar value of output, including subcategories by the amount of energy used by each energy source and each category of labor. Federal money should be budgeted for this measure and could be included in the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Once calculated, a component of this data could be used to calculate CO2 emissions per dollar of output. CO2 emissions could be taxed at finer increments along the production supply chain.
  • Climate Change and other Environmental Policy: Recognize that the number of people and the amount of material human beings consume is the direct contributor of climate change and the destruction of the environment. The global focus should remain on CO2 emissions with the heating, acidification and rising of the seas as the primary metrics to be used in messaging.
  • Economic Policy: Fair wages, including a $15 minimum wage within my district for all workers. Increase funding of Social Security and Medicare. Support the Green New Deal, including federal funding for public colleges and public universities, and the federal forgiveness of existing student debt.
  • Campaign Finance and/or Election Reform: Support completely publicly funded campaigns and work to overturn the Citizens United decision.
  • Crimes and Criminal Justice (including drug policy and gun violence): Shrink the list of crimes punishable by incarceration. End private prisons. End the war on drugs. Close the DEA. Curb the manufacture of handguns and assault weapons. Amend the Constitution to authorize the limit the possession of firearms withinany city, town or village which elects to do so.
