Judge Timothy L. Blakely

Timothy L. Blakely was a Minnesota First Judicial District judge for Goodhue County, Minnesota. He left the court in 2010, after being defeated in a bid for re-election.

2010 election

Blakely won the most votes in the primary election, receiving 40%. He was defeated by Larry Clark in the general election.[1]

Blakely was not recommended for re-election by the respondents of the Minnesota State Bar Association poll.[2]

Suspension

Blakely was suspended from the court without pay for six months dating from September of 2009. The Minnesota Supreme Court suspended him for referring multiple divorce cases to the St. Paul law firm that handled his own divorce.[3]

Military service

Blakely began his career in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Florida and USS America. He continued to work for the Navy as a cryptology officer and, then, an intelligence officer until 2005, when he retired honorably as a Lieutenant Commander.[4]

Career

Prior to joining the District Court, Blakely worked as a trial attorney. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at the Hamilne University School of Law and the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell law schools. He was elected to the First Judicial District in 1998. He was retained in 2004 to a term ending in January of 2011.[3]
