Education
Merkl earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. She earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School. Merkl served as a law clerk with U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Chief Judge John M. Walker, Jr. and with U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Judge Jan DuBois.[1]
Professional career
Merkl's career experience includes working as a senior counsel with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law, as an assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, as a lecturer with Columbia Law School, and as an adjunct professor with the Cardozo School of Law.[1]
