Poll opening and closing times vary from state to state. This page lists poll opening and closing times in each state for the November 6, 2012, election.

Time zone note: Arizona and Hawaii do not observe daylight saving time. Also, 13 states have multiple time zones. Idaho and Oregon are split between the Mountain and Pacific time zones. Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas are divided between Central and Mountain time zones. Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee are split between Eastern and Central time zones. Alaska is divided between the Alaska time zone and the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone.

Alabama

In Alabama, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central time.[1]

Alaska

In Alaska, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Alaska time.[2]

Alaska is divided between the Alaska time zone and the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone.

Arizona

In Arizona, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mountain time.[3]

Arkansas

In Arkansas, polls were open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Central time.[4]

California

In California, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific time.[5]

Colorado

In Colorado, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mountain time .[6]

Connecticut

Florida is split between Eastern and Central time zones.

Georgia

In Georgia, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.[10]

Hawaii

In Hawaii, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Hawaii time.[11]

Idaho

In Idaho, polls were open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. Polling places could open at 7 a.m. at the discretion of the county clerk.[12]

Idaho is split between the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

Illinois

In Illinois, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central time.[13]

Indiana

In Indiana, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time.[14]

Indiana is split between Eastern and Central time zones.

Iowa

In Iowa, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Central time.[15]

Kansas

In Kansas, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time. Counties were given the discretion to open the polls earlier and close them later.[16]

Kansas is divided between Central and Mountain time zones.

Kentucky

In Kentucky, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time.[17]

Kentucky is split between Eastern and Central time zones.

Louisiana

In Louisiana, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central time.[18]

Maine

In Maine, polls in municipalities with a population less than 500 opened between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., while polls in municipalities with a population of 500 or more opened between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. All polls closed at 8 p.m.[19]

Maryland

In Maryland, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Eastern time.[20]

Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, most polling places were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. However, municipalities were given the discretion to open as early as 5:45 a.m.[21]

Michigan

In Michigan, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time.[22]

Michigan is split between Eastern and Central time zones.

Minnesota

In Minnesota, most polling places were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central time. However, some smaller municipalities opened as late as 10:00 a.m.[23]

Mississippi

In Mississippi, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central time.[24]

Missouri

In Missouri, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central time.[25]

Montana

In Montana, polling place hours varied throughout the state. Polling places opened between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and closed at 8:00 p.m.[26]

Nebraska

In Nebraska, polls were open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central time, or 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mountain time.[27]

Nebraska is divided between Central and Mountain time zones.

Nevada

In Nevada, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pacific time.[28]

New Hampshire

In New Hampshire, polling place hours varied throughout the state. In general, polling places opened between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and closed at 7:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.[29]

New Jersey

In New Jersey, polls were open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.[30]

New Mexico

North Carolina

In North Carolina, polls were open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.[33]

North Dakota

In North Dakota, polling locations were required to open between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., with the exception of those precincts in which fewer than 75 votes were cast in the last general election. All polling locations were required to remain open until 7:00 p.m. and close no later than 9:00 p.m.[34]

North Dakota is divided between Central and Mountain time zones.

In Ohio, polls were open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.[35]

Oklahoma

In Oklahoma, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central time.[36]

Oregon

In Oregon, voters could vote on Election Day at their local municipal clerk's office from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.[37]

Oregon is split between the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.[38]

Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, most polls opened at 7:00 a.m. All polls closed at 8:00 p.m.[39]

South Carolina

In South Carolina, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.[40]

South Dakota

In South Dakota, polls were open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.[41][42]

South Dakota is divided between Central and Mountain time zones.

Tennessee

In Tennessee, poll opening times varied by county. All precincts close 8:00 p.m. Eastern and 7:00 p.m. Central. The polls must be open a minimum of 10 hours and may be open for a maximum of 13 hours.[43]

Tennessee is split between Eastern and Central time zones.

Utah
