Term limits
- See also: State legislatures with term limits
The Michigan House of Representatives has been a term-limited state house since Michigan voters approved Proposal B in 1992. Proposal B created Section 54 of Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. It says that state representatives are limited to 3 two-year terms. As with five other states, this is a lifetime limit.
34 of Michigan's 110 representatives, or 31%, were termed-out in 2010.
In addition to the 34 Michigan state representatives who left office because of term limits, 29 Michigan state senators are also termed-out.
Michigan state representative whose seats were up for election in 2010 but who were unable to run because of the state's term limits are:

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Michigan House was a toss-up.[1]According to a Detroit News-WDIV Local 4 poll, likely voters prefer a split legislature -- with Republicans and Democrats each controlling one chamber -- by a 56 percent to 28 percent margin.[2]
