Michigan held an election for two of eight seats on the state board of education on November 3, 2020. The filing deadline was May 8, 2020.
In Michigan, political parties nominate candidates for some offices at their conventions instead of holding a primary. Candidates for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, Supreme Court, and the boards of Michigan State University, Wayne State University, the University of Michigan and the state Board of Education are nominated by political parties.
The Democratic and Republican primary nominating conventions were scheduled for August 29, 2020. The Green Party nominating convention was scheduled for June 20, 2020.
Ellen Lipton and Jason Strayhorn won election in the general election for Michigan State Board of Education.
Election procedure changes in 2020
