Eight Republicans won state executive offices in Mississippi's November 2015 elections, which left the partisan balance among state executive officials largely unchanged.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Seven incumbent Republicans won re-election, leaving the partisan balance unchanged.
  • Republicans retained trifecta control of the state government.
  • Introduction

Mississippi experienced no significant partisan shift after the 2015 elections. All 11 executive offices were up for election. Prior to the election, eight of these offices were held by Republicans and one was held by an independent. Republicans retained control of eight offices, with seven incumbent candidates winning re-election.

Incumbents Governor Phil Bryant (R) and Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves (R) both won re-election to a second term in office; due to term limits, this was their final term. Incumbent Attorney General Jim Hood (D) won re-election to a fourth term. Prior to the election, Hood had been the only statewide elected Democrat to hold executive office in the Deep South.

The November 2015 elections continued the Republican trifecta control of the Mississippi state government, with Republicans holding a majority of seats in the State Senate and House of Representatives, as well as in state executive offices. In addition, in October 2012 the Mississippi Supreme Court, though nonpartisan, was ranked the sixth most conservative court in the nation.[1]
