The Missouri State Board of Education Amendment did not appear on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot in Missouri as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure did not garner the required legislative approval as of May 14, 2010, the end of the 2010 legislative session.
The measure proposed merging the state's two oversight boards for education. In other words the proposal would have created a six-member State Board of Education that would handle both K-12 public schools, colleges and universities. Under the proposal, state lawmakers would confirm board members and sign off on the education commissioner.[1]
If approved by voters, the boards would have merged by July 1, 2011.[2]
Path to the ballot
In order to qualify for the ballot, the measure required approval from both the House and the Senate.[3] However, the measure did not garner the required legislative approval as of May 14, 2010, the end of the 2010 legislative session.
