Selection

Judges of the court of appeals are elected in nonpartisan elections. Incumbents serve six-year terms and must be re-elected to continue serving. The governor appoints interim judges as necessary; interim incumbents who wish to serve another term must run in the next election that takes place more than a year after appointment.[1]
Qualifications
To serve on the court of appeals, a judge must be:
- "learned in the law," a phrase courts have interpreted to mean a licensed attorney-at-law;
- no more than 70 years old[1][2]
