Melanie started in politics in 2018, when tragedy and hardship took its toll and she decided she wanted to make change for her community. In 2018, Melanie entered the race as a write-in candidate for GA- District 43, and she was just getting her political experience . In 2020, she runs again, with the determination and courage to win the race. Melanie is Georgia born. She was born in Gainesville, Georgia. Melanie graduated from Gainesville High School and attended Savannah State University, and holds an A.A.S in Business Management from Columbia Southern University, and is pursing her education further at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She holds an inactive Real Estate License in Georgia.

The first African American woman elected to the Georgia General Assembly, Grace Towns Hamilton was also the first female of her race in the Deep South to hold a public office of such consequence. She was among eight African Americans sent to the state legislature in a special election in June 1965.

The decision of one senator can change the entire course of a bill in the Senate while a representative in the House cannot. In the House of Representatives, the majority members control everything, and the individuals in the minority part are disadvantaged when it comes to passing bills. In the Senate, every senator has a say in the laws being passed and for it to precede all the members must agree unanimously. A single senator can object to the legislation if he/she disagrees with the bill.

I don't believe state legislators should have previous political experience. I believe a person is propel into politics with tragedies, hardships, and setbacks.

The Governor is to govern over the state legislative in making sure laws are passed with fairness and soundness for the betterment of our state.

It is important to build relationships with other legislators to bring legislation to the floor as a team and for the betterment of the state and their prospective communities.
